Salesman’s sample kit for Youngstown steel 50s kitchen cabinets - today’s ebay pick

I have a kit like this for Republic steel kitchen cabinets. Everybody LOVES to play with it, and I actually did use it when I was planning how to put my Geneva kitchen cabinets together. It’s a great piece of ephemera from the 50s. Back then, the cabinet salesman would come to the house to meet personally with Mrs. and Mr. The kit of little cabinets was among the tools used to show them how their Dream Kitchen could look.

ebay-nov-6-youngstown-2.JPGIn the printed presentation that goes with my set, instructions to the salesman advise him that, his first job is to “dissatisfy her with her present kitchen.” Things never change, do they?

Personally, I think that this listing begins on the pricey side. Maybe not, though — with interest continuing to grow in saving and restoring these cabinets, prices will go up, alas. Either way, I post it as a wonderful relic of our retro past.

Update: Sold for $255
