You know how everyone always posts comments about things that remind them SO MUCH of their childhoods? Well this one hit me right smack in the gut. Pastel prints of the adorable faces used on the toilet tissue! Mom, can you confirm – we must have used Northern?
Update: Regular reader Sarah emails that she also has some of these at her etsy shop – check ‘em out. And look, I nabbed this awesome photo of Sarah!

Kitchens – Countertops

My local Re-Store was offering some maple flooring from bowling alley – and some handy homeowner re-purposed it into the most excellent countertop. Isn’t it great?! …Right up there with the Teacups Chandelier we looked at a while ago. Related Posts Basement bowling alley in 1962 Michigan time capsule house for sale — heaven! What [...]

This week I heard from Jeff, who uses vintage speckled laminate for his banjo finger boards. I just think that is so cool… you know I am part Kentuckian. P.S. Can someone tell me how to get the accent mark over the ‘e’, as in lame’ … as I am dying to write lame’ laminate? [...]

For either kitchen or, especially, bathroom countertops, I believe that Carrara marble laminates are an authentic vintage choice. I blinded myself searching for them among the 8 retailers of laminate in the U.S. today. The number-one choice, I think, is going to be from Wilsonart — their White Carrara, shown above. Read on for some [...]

Many thanks to Whitney, who just tipped me that Wilsonart has introduced 11 new colors of boomerang laminate. There now are a total of 14 colorways — the most of any manufacturer. I am quite liking the “butterscotch” above — looks like you could use this in a kitchen with yellow kitchen cabinets. There is [...]

“…Eliminates the final telltale sign of laminate – the brown line.” I am a big believer in the idea that the most significant design shifts tend to come from technological breakthroughs. The advance of laminate kitchen countertops — replacing linoleum and wood in most kitchens in the 1950s — came as a result of the [...]

These were an early 70′s premium that you sent for. At that time toilet paper came in pastel colors . Each girls picture was on a corresponding color.
I have several of these that I snatched from my aunt’s yard sale, along with several ads she kept from 50s magazines. I have each of the prints above in addition to some with boys. I took them not knowing what I’d do with them. Just knew I couldn’t throw them out.
These are so cute!
The link to Sarah’s listing doesn’t work
I have 4 prints of the girls, plus the baby under the blanket and also the 3 boys. I also have a smaller picture of the little girl with the kitten. I had all of the prints framed back in the early 1970s.
how much do the northern tissue girls sell for? I have a set of 4,
I don’t recall what these sold for… they were on ebay quite a while ago….
i have seen these little girl’s faces along with the little boys faces, but these are not the ones that i remember when i was little. the ones i remember were just girls faces, and it was more like the late “70′s” and early “80′s” that i seen the little girl’s faces corresponding to the different colors of toilet paper.
i wish i could find out who drew those ones and how i could find the drawings of these little girls again!!! now those were the cutest little girl’s faces ever!!! i remember the blue toilet paper had the face of a little black girl with some big ol’ eyes. she was sooo cute. and the yellow toilet paper had the cutest little girl that had 2 ponytails and big brown eyes and her hair was like a reddish-light brown color.
i remember my mom used to send me to the neighborhood little market for toilet paper, and i would always pick the yellow northern toilet paper cuz i thought that little girl with the 2 ponytails was sooooo pretty!!!
if anyone knows or remembers these later versions of the northern little girls, let me know too. and especially if you know how or where i can find them!!!
thank you……
i have 7 of those 11 x 14 and 2 5 x7 in the origional mailing envelope to Northern paper mills a marathon division of american can company po box 690 green bay wisconsin from The Ruben H. Donnelley Corporation Chicago Ill. post marked dec-1960
The Northern Tissue girls were actually 5 in all, for the Green, White, Pink, Blue and Yellow tissue. I know it was the 50′s because I bought them to hang in my first babies room. She was born in 1959.
Hello! I wanted to reply to Christina (she left a message on November 21, 2009.) I am about to list 12 of the original 11″ x 17″ print copies on ebay, if you are interested. I have had the pictures forever (they were framed on my bedroom wall when I was little and I am now 54 years old…did I just admit that???) There are 2 beautiful babies, 2 blonde girls, 3 brunette girls, 1 redheaded girl, 1 strawberry blonde girl and the famous 3 little boys! I must admit I have never seen all 12 together in any auction, so I feel fortunate to be able to offer them to you. I will check this site, you can email me or check my auction…my eBay ID is crystal.illusion. Have fantastic and happy holidays, everyone!! Mary
Do you have the prints of the 4 boys? If not, do you know where to find this prints?
Thanks, Jeanie
Jeanie, I don’t sell anything here. Watch etsy.com and ebay….
I’m not sure if I have them all but what I do have is, 5 girls, 1 baby and 3 boy prints.
I have a set of the 4 girls, also still in box. I would be willing to sell them if
someone wants them.
Jeannette, you should put these on ebay. No buying/selling here on the main blog. Good luck.
