Kitchens – Countertops

In my recent story about authentic 1950s 1960s and 1970s kitchen remodeling products still made today, I spotlighted Elkay Lustertone stainless steel drainboard sinks — made back in the day and still available today. Over the past year, I’ve been in touch with a reader who was preparing to install a new Elkay sink top [...]
Wowza — here is a ton — several tons, actually! — of vintage Consoweld laminate likely to come on the market soon. I never cease to be amazed at the retro treasures out there, yet to be unearthed. Interestingly, this seller first posted this on our Forum — but then got so much interest, put [...]

I have been on a tear, of late, researching laminates. Considering how Greige and Granite-y 99% of what’s out there is, I want to provide Retro Renovators with the broadest researched selection possible of designs that have a more historical, retro appeal. After I learned that Formica’s butcher block laminate has been in production since [...]

These are sure a blast from the past: Glass combination trivets and cutting boards that are installed directly into your kitchen countertop. Yes: with metal rim aka Hudee ring. I think that these built-in cutting boards were all the rage in the 1970s, because there was one in our 1975 countertop, to the left of the sink. I’m not sure [...]

Happy Birthday Pam, and many happy nostalgic returns.
We make our coffee in old percolators — currently we have two old GE’s and a cute little Farberware number. We have several because they are so cool, but also, if one conks out, we have a backup. We think percolators make the richer, hotter coffee compared to more modern contraptions.
We used to live on a wornout old farm that we called The Coffeepot Ranch, because about the only thing the place could produce was a good cup of coffee from our old percolator. Now our 59 ranch is The Coffeepot Ranch.
(We think people should give their homes names, like the homes in English novels. Does anyone else have a name for their wonderful abode?)
Happy birthday to the kid who made me a mother. The coffee pot brings back memories of always having a pot full and a Bisquick coffee cake made because neighbors always dropped in to visit.
Happy Retro Birthday, Pam! Here’s wishing you many more!
My father still makes his coffee in one of these.
I have a 4 cup Farberware perc that makes great coffee and keeps it hot w/o the coffee having that burnt taste.
Drinking coffee is very retro and with the serving pieces all matching, it is quite classy.
Sue, your idea for naming our homes is great! I’ll have to put my think cap on and name mine.
