'Sand blasted and white washed walls' is what I've heard. We have those same walls (almost): http://flickr.com/photos/jodyhughes/2469131612/in/set-72157601143959896/
also from a custom built Portland house (1954). I think our houses are related. Though, ours was updated a few times throughout the years, we're in the midst of restoring it now. More pictures if your curious:

Ahhh....I believe they are vct tiles on the basement floor. We just had them stripped and waxed and they look brand new!

The living fireplace wall is whitewashed wood paneling. My friends dad was over the other night and he used to work for a wood paneling company in Portland many years ago and he had never seen anything like them. We are so lucky to have so many original and custom details and I love sharing it with all of you.

As far as living room colors go, I have swatches of burma jade, caribbean coral and plymouth green on every wall except the window wall in the living room which is all coral and looks phenomenal. You were sooooo right, thanks Pam!

Wow! that's all I can say...it's all fabulous! I especially like the grey wall in the living room with the big window that is framed with lovely curtains & pelmet. This room has a wonderful feeling to it! Is the grey on the wall wallpaper or some sort of faux wood panelling? Thanks for sharing, a great sneek peek into the past x

Actually, I meant the flooring in the room with what looks like a brick fireplace that has been painted white, a green vertically striped sofa facing the fireplace, and an empty florescent light fixture on the ceiling. Is that floor asphalt tile, or something else? It looks very interesting.

Stephan, the hearth is just brick. I've never really paid much attention to it before, thanks for pointing it out.

Bonnie, here are some close-up photos of my countertop.

<a href="http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/amy_74/?action=view&current=LastRoll-07.jpg" rel="nofollow"></a><a href="http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/amy_74/?action=view&current=LastRoll-06.jpg" rel="nofollow"></a>

Alice, at first I really thought the gold and silver was an odd combination and I was worried about bringing in more silver accents with the aluminum canisters, stainless fridge and chrome appliances, but somehow it all works. I think it is because the gold wallpaper is so reflective that all the other colors bounce off it and the kitchen just glows. I love it!

Amy,
What a great find! That gold wallpaper in the kitchen is awesome! How does it look in person with the silver colored trim on your appliances and silver accents? Also, in the photo, the paper appears textured...is it?

Amy,

Thanks so much for sharing your home with us. Is there anyway you could post a closer look at your kitchen counters? They look like something I'm looking for for my 1955 rambler. Thanks.
