I know that a number of readers are on the watch for retractable kitchen lights. So they’ve probably already seen this one listed on ebay.
Design tip: The point I want to make about this, though, is one I often make: That while many of us may be looking for “modern” accessories rather than “colonial” ones — actually adding a little colonial touch here and there can really spice up your interior. Give it a little whimsy. Let’s NOT TAKE OURSELVES TOO SERIOUSLY! Remember, much of the 50s ethic was about not being PRETENTIOUS.
Imagine, people coming into your mostly-modern kitchen and…seeing this. What a great conversation starter / ice breaker. How you can impress them with your knowledge about how, in the postwar era, decor was really a mash up of colonial — in reality almost first-and-foremost… then, contemporary / international … asian… provincial… and even grandma’s hand-me-downs.
