A Berkshires James Taylor 4th of July

Happy 4th, everyone. Here in the beautiful Berkshires, James Taylor’s 4th of July concert at Tanglewood is the must-see event each and every year. JT lives right here in Lenox, and his Sweet Baby James, with its Stockbridge-to-Boston, is literally our national anthem. The crowd goes wild - me included. I have to say, I LOVE THIS GUY. Enjoy this very vintage, very sweet baby faced 1970 JT. A really wonderful version including a goofy light fixture at the end — making the fit to Retro Renovation way too easy!

In 1970, my sister and I, ages, 13 and 15, would wash dishes in the evenings in a kitchen featuring wooden cabinets that had been “antiqued,” avocado green appliances, and hideous avocado green and harvest gold carpeting on the floor. While working, we would sing songs by James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. This led to the discovery that my sister had a really good voice, and she went on to sing in high school musicals, and majored in music education in college. I did not have a really good voice, but certainly learned to appreciate those who did, such as Mr. Taylor. Thanks for stirring up some good memories.
