Kitchens – Countertops

Several readers have asked me how to install the stainless steel countertop edging from New York Metals. In this post, I’ll take you step-by-step through the process that we used to install the metal edging in my kitchen. I had my countertops laminated by an outfit recommended by by contractor. They made all the countertops [...]

Arborite has two new laminates in their 2011-2012 collection that just popped onto my radar. I haven’t seen these as actual samples yet — I’ll order them this week. Meanwhile, I wanted to put them out there, because I know that many Retro Renovators have been left kind of up a creek since Formica discontinued [...]

So here is a little piece of trim made to fit between the edge of your countertop and the edge of your stove, to prevent all manner of food from dropping down between. Hmmm, a handy dandy that I didn’t even know I needed, but which I am pretty sure would make DH, a neat freak, very happy. [...]

Cracked ice laminate seems to have been a very popular choice for vintage dinette table tops, and I hear from readers fairly often asking where they can find it for kitchen counters. Crackle ice laminate is still available from a number of sources online. Like the other special-order boomerang laminates available, these crackle ice laminates [...]

Update: Almost all of these designs are now discontinued. See my up-to-date stories on all retro laminates here: Kitchen/Countertops Category. UPDATE (Oct 2011): Click over to –> this story to get an update on all three sources for boomerang laminate. The countertops I removed from the two vanities in my 1951 bathrooms were [...]

Jita, are you going thru every post ever published????
I do that
I just bought the chair pictured! Does anyone know how I can find out the model name and/or when it was manufactured?
Style 880, Cover XC-13, Finish wood. The tags on mine is underneath attached to the back inner wall. The one I have albeit with chrome is dated 1969. hope this late info is still useful.
Just saved this recliner from the dump – only missing piece is handle and someone took a handle off of an newer model recliner (that doesn’t look halfway like the original) – any ideas of how to get a replacement handle — I did think I could have someone make it, it looks fairly simple.
I have the exact chair pictured above and listed it on Craigs List for $125.00. The chair is in excellent condition with no tears, stains or other issues. Someone responded to my ad asking if I was really selling it for $125.00. The link mentioned under the picture above is not there and I don’t see any chairs like it for sale on ebay. How much is this worth?
I’m looking for a recliner like my grandfather used to have. I don’t know the name. I remember it sat close to the floor (no space under the chair, stubby legs like a sofa) did NOT have a leg lift. Just a push button on the side that let you recline slightly. You needed a foot stool for your legs. Any help in identifying or locating please advise.
Thanks, Mel Eaglin
