Angela, a new Flickr friend, sent me the listing link to this house in her Dallas neighborhood of Sparkman Estates. $255,000.
A real time capsule and perfect for another Monday of voyeuristic vintage living.

It’s always refreshing to see something that has been loved and preserved. It breaks my heart to watch the shows on HGTV where they find a great 1940s-1960s era house and then go in with the sledge hammers and bust up the bathrooms & kitchens. Sometimes I just can’t watch! Someday those designers are going to regret destroying all that art deco and mid-century modern craftsmanship and style. I hope they realize it soon.

I just bought a 50’s ranch house in Dallas, and although not in this neighborhood, there are always quite a few on the market like the one featured in this post. I’ve found they are frequently the homes of elderly people who have lived in them for many years. In my view they were the first and the real “green” homeowners. Ripping out well crafted materials and replacing them with bamboo really doesn’t quite make eco-sense does it? Whomever buys this one will likely change it dramatically, as homes in town are becoming more in demand. Some people realize what they’ve got and others can’t wait to rip everything out and replace it with granite, espresso-colored wood cabinets and those horrible vessel sinks. P.S. - I love your site! I find it interesting and motivating. I even started a PBN dog wall in my new house.
