Madison uncovers another time capsule 50s home in Dallas

by pam kueber on July 28, 2008

In case you haven’t noticed – Mondays are becoming our Time Capsule Voyeurs day. As I mentioned recently, my other favorite TV show is CSI, Las Vegas original version. Parade Magazine did a very important story once with a personality assessment based on which CSI you liked – Las Vegas…New York…or Miami. Las Vegas fans were voyeurs. I even think they said dark and brooding. No comment.

Hey, it’s interesting, isn’t it – those CSI people are kind of like us — detectives. And in this photo — house detectives, at that!

Thanks to Madison for today’s awesome home from a Dallas real estate listing – a more modest size home than ones we’ve seen lately. I love love love love it. This is really a perfect house.

Madison says:

Hi Pam,

Here’s another interesting one in Dallas…there are many here as the area was booming in the 50’s-60’s. I almost put an offer on it myself, but decided on a different neighborhood.

There’s a window behind that mirror on the far wall in the yellow bathroom.

The kitchen is great, especially that copper vent-a-hood.

I moved into a 50’s home because I’ve always admired them, they have such character and strength. They’re really comfortable, practical homes. I could go on but I won’t. Thanks again for your site!

Thank you, Madison – and we can’t wait to see photos of your retro renovation when it’s ready for prime time!

Hey, my kitchen has the same hardware on the cabinets! :-) Cool pictures … it’s fascinating to see some of these homes that have been seemingly frozen in time.

Hey Pam thanks for posting. It’s really a lovely little house, I can’t imagine why it hasn’t sold. And you’re right, the formica WAS cool, it was little squiggly lines I think, and had to be original. What doesn’t show in this picture was opposite the sink in the kitchen, there was a washer/dryer built in with cabinets fitted around it, exactly matching the others, so I’m sure it must have been original as well.

But then I have to clean pinch pleats, but then I have to clean pinch pleats, but then I have to clean pinch pleats!

Naaah. You don’t have to clean pinch pleats very often, like every 5-10 years. Just vacuum them very lightly every now and then, and be careful not to choose a pattern that shows dirt ha ha. That aside, I certainly understand wash ‘n wear. I am very into slipcovers for that reason…and apologize if I slipped into dogma!

I have the same scalloped trim above my sink and the walkthrough between the cooking and dining area in my kitchen!! I want to touch the wall of the pink bathroom, love the entire house!

I enjoyed all the pictures, but the kitchen is the one I love the most. Wow! It reminds me actually of the kitchen of one of my older aunts back when I was a kid.

I love the shade of pink in that bathroom as well – and the yellow bathroom! I’m not crazy about the kitchen, but maybe it’s the wallpaper – because I DO like the cabinets and trim.
