A 1960s time capsule home in Ogden Dunes, Indiana

Reader KimGem sent this week’s time capsule home.
It’s in Ogden Dunes, Indiana — just 40 miles south of Chicago along Lake Michigan. This beauty appears to be early 60s. Delicious turquoise kitchen.
And of course, I love the pink bathrooms, cork floors, paneling and more. Click here for the listing and real estate contact info.
Kim also sent this link to a 2007 story in the New York Times about the Ogden Dunes area:
THE Indiana Dunes, just 40 miles southeast of Chicago, rise to great heights along the Lake Michigan shore, looking like a swatch of Cape Cod sneaked into the Midwest. A legacy of the ice age, the Dunes lure second-home owners to quiet communities strung along the beachfront. Its promoters call the region Indiana’s Crescent Coast, Casual Coast, Duneland, Dune Country, even the Lake Michigan Riviera. But the Dunes need no hype. Click here for the entire NYT story.
Thanks, KimGem!

Great house. Love all the windows! Wish I had that big window in my kitchen. Great fireplace area too. Oh, we’re having a chimney sweep coming today to get us ready for the winter. Got to keep these fireplaces working!
Like the Barenaked Ladies song “If I Had a Million Dollars” If I HAD a million dollars I’d buy up all theses incredible time capsules and preserve them for all of us! (:
OMG, that foyer! With the dream of every MCM home shopper … an indoor/outdoor planter. Sigh.
Here’s a tragi-comic blog entry with one of the most heinous abuses ever of the coveted indoor planter:

Thanks so much for posting this. I love this house. I just wish I could afford it lol.The cork floors and light fixtures are so great plus all the natural light and that mosaic butterfly counter in the bath are just fabulous. I hate to think someone will buy this beauty and then gut it. Just the thought of that makes me shudder.
Yes, isn’t that butterfly mosaic countertop in the bathroom fabulous? Why doesn’t everyone have one of these? Butterflies, lollipops, rainbows, puppy dogs….
LOVE those sofas. Anyone have any ideas on finding those…?
