Frank from the San Gabriel Valley CA sends us this time capsule from Palm Springs — along with more PS links - read on! Thanks, Frank!
Pam,
Look at this beautiful post and beam fixer in Palm Springs. I love the kitchen, and notice the wall clocks. I wish I could afford to buy it and fix it up. My fear is that someone will buy it and rip out all the original fixtures. Share it with your readers.
I am not a realtor. I just love Palm Springs and mid-century architecture.
I really enjoy your website. I live in the San Gabriel Valley. I rent a fantastic Alexander butterfly in the Twin Palms neighborhood in Palm Springs for weekend getaways. I would very much like to purchase a weekend home in PS. There are so many great houses there, and the desert air is fantastic. I check the MLS every morning before I start work and dream.
I really enjoy your website. No, I live in the San Gabriel Valley. I rent a fantastic Alexander butterfly in the Twin Palms neighborhood in Palm Springs for weekend getaways. The gentleman who owns the house is involved in the Palm Springs Modern Committee. William Kriesel, the architect who designed his home in the fifties, recently designed the landscaping for the house. You should think about visiting PS. I’m not sure of the actual dates, but in February PS has its annual Modernism Week where you are able to tour many of the beautiful mid-century homes.
I don’t know PS Stephen, but I enjoyed his article about El Rancho Vista Estates a while back. I posted a link to the Racquet Club Road Estates website in the comment section of his artice. Here is it is again: racquetclubestates.com/home
The gallery section has some cool pictures, and the site has picutures of the original brouchers. This link also has a tour of fantastic Alexander butterfly in Racquet Club Road estates: palmspringsalexander.com
Take care, and keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Frank

Frank, can you tell us exactly where this time capsule is? Since I am in PS, I want to drive by and have a look at it.
And thanks for the compliment. Glad you enjoyed my write-up on El Rancho Vista.
I just looked at the original Racquet Club Road Estates brochure (thanks for sending that link!!). The price of those Alexander homes when first sold, circa 1961, was just $21,500 !!!!! My CAR cost more than that today! Oh, how I wish I could have bought one back then … though that was a lot of money in 1961. But those homes have increased in value by 100-200 times, a pretty substantial return on the investment over a 40-50 year span.
Stephen,
The house is in the Warm Sands neighborhood. It is located at 781 E. Sunny Dunes Rd.

I wondered if it wasn’t one of those “fixer-uppers” along Sunny Dunes. I see I was correct! I used to live at Sunny Dunes and Thornhill, before I bought my condo on South Palm Canyon, so I’ve watched some of those houses sit on the market for ages. The one at the corner of Sunny Dunes and Sunrise is even slated for auction, I believe.
