Speedway Ron has now developed an intense need to acquire every small appliance ever made that was recessed directly into the wall. To go with all his steel kitchens and now, he tells me, 4 vintage refrigerators in his possession:
Pam, again I blame you…I was pretty happy living my life and not knowing that Chambers ever made a full copper stove in the late 1950’s. Now I know it’s out there and I want one. Dare I say, that I might even NEED one. So I got to looking and I think I’ve found a full copper Chambers kitchen and it also has a stainless Hotpoint fridge in it. How cool would that be? I do think I need to try to buy it.
That would make four fridges that I don’t want to sell though. That’s a lot. Someday this will all be worth something right!!?? hehe… Ron
Read on for more – including a recessed Modern Maid wall toaster! Ron’s happy obsession also now extends to recessed appliances, he tells me.
See my Sunbeam posts:
- Sunbeam steel appliance cabinet appliance center
- Happy birthday to me – my Sunbeam birthday present!
- And this Westinghouse model.
He’s refused to pay $255 on ebay for a Modern Maid toaster that recesses and pulls out of the wall.
And now – I am on the lookout for other appliances to torture him with. Isn’t this 1961 recessed dishwasher incredible? Jane Jetson, eat your heart out…Ron, try not to!

Interesting! Mr. Ling morphed his company into the conglomerate LTV (Ling Temco Vought) which had (has?) it’s own tower in downtown Dallas across from the building I used to work in. The company included aerospace holdings and Mr. Ling sold stock in his company from a booth at the State Fair of Texas (way back when). I didn’t know anything about the deluxe appliance side of the company. Thanks for sharing that! At least I think I’m making the correct connection. Someone let me know if I’m WAY off track. It’s happy hour here in San Marcos!

Ah, very interesting, I’ve heard of LTV, for sure!

Hey Speedway Ron … I saw a few cute catalogs featuring all sorts of built in appliances and thought you might enjoy them. Search for ‘SIX Vintage Retro 1954 Kitchen Appliance Pamphlets’ to find the ebay auction. And, sorry, my dishwasher is the plain ol’ regular kind!
Speedway Ron says
Yeah, this is just mean! hehe
Great stuff. Does anyone actually have one of these dishwashers? I’ve got vintage dishwashers but nothing like this one…. I’d like to see one.

Romper, welcome! There are 782 posts – so that will keep you busy for a while. When Mid-Century Keith was new, he wanted to go thru them all, so he had me add the Archive, bottom right. Or just surf. Have fun and comment away! 🙂 Pam

I just discovered this site today, and I am already in love with it! I started researching midcentury homes in earnest about a week ago, so I’m quite green, but I’ve always had an affinity for vintage/retro homes and interiors, and this site is full of amazing examples. Of course, I’ve only begun to scratch the surface, but I just had to gush about how cool it is. As for myself, I have a crappy condo in a 1980s fourplex, but I would love someday to buy a 1950s ranch (or 1920s bungalow, gotta love those) and renovate it! Thanks for the great site. I’m off to gaze longingly at Pam’s kitchen again…

Readers, we all need to keep encouraging Ron to go into business with this full-time. He wants to do it, I know it!

Personally, I’m hoping Ron will start a collection of wall-mounted refrigerators so I’ll have a place to shop when I’m ready to install one!

Pam,
It is not only Ron you torture with your wallmounted dishwasher find! You have provided what is now the third picture that I’ve seen indicating such a thing existed and why can’t I have one? Unlike Ron, who is working on an appliance managerie, I want a wallmounted dishwasher for pratical purposes…doesn’t it just make more sense than loading your dishes down on the floor? So please keep sharing these finds…hopefully Ron can practice deep-breathing to get through it! 🙂
