I treated myself to this movie for Christmas but had to watch it by myself as I’m the only one in the house who appreciates it. Loved that line about the right white! (Man can I relate to that) Also loved the increase in cost for her 4 little pieces of slate for the floor in the flower room (?).

Hee…Delightful. Such a great movie! (Looking for the perfect kitchen cabinet white right now…but a cool, bright, fresh white between puffy clouds on a summer afternoon and crisp bistro tablecloths. No wonder men think we are crazy.)

That’s always been my favorite scene, both in the movie and the book!

Such a fabulous movie-you hit the nail on the head with this scene! I also love their early encounter with Bunny Funkhouser’s plans.

I’ve been a die-hard fan of 1940’s era architecture and furniture for a long time, and I *heart* your blog. Keep up the great work!

Oh, thank you for featuring this! This is a great movie, and the book is even better! I’ve read it about four times. Anyone building, buying or fixing up a home can relate to this story. Right after we had moved, we were dealing with a lot of contractors (which can be a frustrating experience to say the least)… This book helped us to “lighten up” and laugh about life’s inevitable annoyances. Almost anything we were experiencing, The Blandings had gone through it in the 40’s. It was comforting to know that we were not alone in feeling overwhelmed by the process of purchasing and building (or restoring) a home. Goes to show, the more things change, the more they stay the same – for better or worse!
