Large scale mid century art work by Alexander Girard – reissued

girard-plyprint-images

Are you looking for mid century art for a large wall space? How about these panels by Alexander Girard – who is widely considered the greatest colorist and textile designer of all time — and which have just been reissued. Combine all six 14″ x 14″ panels – and you will have quite a dramatic display for your 50s 60s or 70s living room, office or den. And, the wood for the pieces is formaldehyde-free – no off-gassing, folks. Looks like pricing is generally $89/panel at various online retailers.

A vintage Beauty Queen cabinet label – Retropink57′s contest entry

retropink-beauty-queen.JPGRetropink57′s Found Objects Found Art contest entry…

Hi Pam

I’m sure many retroreaders will recognize this, but for those who don’t,
this little piece of chrome artwork is off of a Beauty Queen brand metal
kitchen cabinet that held a porcelain enamel double sink with drain
boards.  I love this thing! I display it with my other vintage kitchen
items and it makes my happy every time I look at it.  There’s something
about it’s fancy script, the fact that it’s chrome and just the words
‘beauty queen’ alone that delight the heck out of me.  Also…it didn’t
cost a dime because it was found half-buried in gravel rock next to a
dumpster!

A vintage Drinking Lucky Bird – Sophie’s contest entry

sophies-drinking-luck-bird.jpgSophie’s contest entry:

Hi Pam,

I am a longtime lurker but have come out of hiding to share my Drinking Lucky Bird. I remember being fascinated by one as a child in the 80s (when, I believe, they were already vintage) so when I found this one tucked away in a drawer at an estate sale I didn’t hesitate to bring him home.

If he worked he would would bob up and down “drinking” from a glass. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been well looked after and he will only drink a few times before he stops. But his face is so full of vintage character (even with a piece of tape holding on his eyes!) that I keep him up on the shelf in my office. He makes me smile!

Thanks for a great site!

Sophie

Vintage candle holders atop the Magic Chef stove – Jill S’s contest entry

jills-candle-holders.jpgJill’s entry into our contest:

Hi Pam,
This is my entry for the “Found objects. Found art” Contest. These are candle holders that I found in our basement in our 1950′s house when we moved in. I moved them on top of our 1949-1950 Magic Chef stove and that is their new home, they just seem to belong there. I don’t know if you can even get candles that fit them anymore. The size is bigger than a birthday candle, but smaller than most tapered candles that I have seen.
Thank you,
Jill Simpson

Found Objects…Found Art Contest: Entry blitz for the next 10 days

contest-screen-shot

We have received 56 fabulous entries in our 2nd annual Found Objects…Found Art Contest – with prizes from Satellite and Schiffer Books – and with submissions from Australia, Puerto Rico, Canada and the U.S. Cool, huh! Rather than take two full months to get through them one at a time, I think it makes sense to do a little blitz for the next 10 days – we’ll do three a day…starting today… in the straightforward order that they came in.  Then… Heck yeah there is more →
