Aww, wow, what a truly touching and beautiful story! I just received my very first Kokeshi Doll and will definitely treasure it for a long while as well. It's amazing how they are made...so carefully crafted with so much time put into each one. I'll certainly think of this story whenever I look at any Kokeshi doll from now on too. :)

This was an amazing story! When I was in 1st and 2nd grade (1968-1970), my family was stationed on the northern most tip of Hokkaido, Japan. (My dad was in the Air Force, my mom from the Philippines). I had a set of nesting Kokeshi dolls that were my favorite for many years. Somewhere in the midst of moving every 2 years, they were lost. It was years later, as a married mom of 3 teenagers, that I found a set on Ebay. I really wanted a set, to somehow replace the one that was lost...

How amazing and special is you story is of the Kokeshi dolls that found their way back into your mom's life and the circle completed.

That is a beautiful, moving story. Your mother was a very special lady and quite inspirational. I think you have the makings of a great movie script!!

Kevin, what an amazing story! Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

When I first started reading your story, I thought that my little mystery dolls that were my first vintage purchase were perhaps kokeshi dolls. Alas, they don't appear to be! They stand about six inches tall and are solid wood. I still treasure them and will think of your mother when I see them.
