Where can you find the perfect pink, peach, blue, sunset tan, mint green or harvest gold toilet seat for your vintage toilet? We have three basic answers to this common question about updating your 40s 50s 60s or 70s bathroom – including a new-found source. A typical plea:
Hello,
I am new to your site, brought here because I am about to purchase a Las Vegas home built in 1970 (it will be the first house I’ve lived in that is younger than me). The bathrooms have unusually shaped toilets, in a sort of peachy color. Anyway, the toilet seats on them are an attempt to match the color, but not a good one, and the size/shape is obviously wrong too. I am wondering if there are sources to buy seats that matching color and shape for what I assume is original. I’d love to have them to put right away when we move in.
Thanks, Tami
A couple of answers so far:
- Bemis’ Color Direct Program
- Locke Plumbing — this is the “new source” — their image is above
- Plastic white marbleized seat here on Amazon (affiliate link) — what do you think?? Too cheesy? Have I lost my mind?
- And here are a bundle of novelty toilet seats available in the U.K. — yes, I have lost my mind, it’s clear.
- For anything Crane, try deabath.com
- Buy a wood seat and paint it yourself – see Palm Springs Stephan’s comment in the Bemis story for more info
- And remember: You can always go with black or wood – which might look great depending on your color scheme
See what I do for fun – I research toilet seats.

We did find a round shaped burgundy toilet seat – Bemis…..but
ordered it from Home Depot online. Free shipping to your home
also returns can be made directly to your local Home Depot to avoid
return shipping charges. This allowed us to order two different
shades – one was just right and we returned the other one! Still
looking for the orchid one…..we ordered two shades of orchid and neither of them were the right shade for the 1929 American Standard elongated toilet seat we need. Bemis makes good quality products!

I have a 1960 house with CASE elongated 4100 toilet seat that needs to be replaced….it’s a pinkish/peachy color. Can anyone help? The bolts are horizontal and go into the tank rather than vertical, going into bowl rim. If I could even find the right model, I would try to get it professionally painted.

i have a vintage case cranberry red (?) toilet that was installed in my ancient house during the last remodel in the mid 1950s. I’ve redone every room execpt i haven’t gotten to the bathroom yet. The original toilet seat (yes, it has to be original becuase it matches the toilet exactly) just had a screw in the hinge break. I’m trying to find a replacement seat – can you help?

Cheap alternatuve—-I have the original 1960 sea foam green bathroom but of course the original toilet set is long gone. the other day getting ready for a party, I ran across the color “Catalina Mist” in a spray can of Krylon paint at Ace Hardware. I spray painted my toilet seat; it matched exactly!!!!!

We are refurbishing a 1960’s house which has a different color Case toilet in each of the 4 bathrooms. The bolts that hold the toilet seats are 7 inches apart. We need to be replace seats in green, peach and gray. I found a white one on the Locke Plumbing website, but the colored seats have 5 inch bolts. Does anybody know where I can find toilet seats with 7 inch bolts to fit a Case toilet in green, peach and gray?

My name is Susie. I have a beautiful pink bathroom. Everything is pink! My problem is the toilet. It’s a pink American Standard Church elongated wideback seat. This means the bolts that hold the seat on the bowl are 10 1/2″ apart. The seat is broken. I can’t find anything to fit. All the seats I find are about 6″. I’m not sure what to do or where to go. If anyone has any ideas, please help. I would like to keep my bathroom as original as possible.

Hi Susie,
We have the exact same issue! Did you ever find one? I might have found a seat online, but it’s ridiculously expensive:

Hi all!
A couple points of Interest.
Bemis Manufacturing Company make toilet seats with the brand names: Bemis, Church, Mayfair, Olsonite, and Westport.
Bemis also makes some toilet seats for other companies, such as our neighbor Kohler and American Standard.
Locke Plumbing’s link above is just showing a small set of Bemis’ color seats.
Bemis’ Color Direct program will have every color that we currently make, so it’s your best chance to find that solid color you’re looking for. The “Kit” includes color chips with the Bemis color number and the different manufacturers that color is known to be associated with.
We’re working hard on updating all of Bemis’ website to make finding a color toilet seat, or any toilet seat, a lot easier.
There’s really a lot more out there than many people realize and it can be daunting to find the right one, sometimes. And color matching is never an easy task!

I just want to order a toilet seat and everytime I click on a link it takes me to another page. Can’t I order anything on this site???

No, Pam — this is not a selling site. The links in this story point you to the different posts (stories) that I have done about where to find toilet seats. Those stories then have the links to the selling sites.
