Hello Tom, 

Great piece and great find. I live out here in Covina, Ca. I frequent thrift shops to find retro and mid-century furniture and I found a blonde- veneered piece that is similar to yours but it plays 45&#039;s instead of 12&quot;s. Its a firestone too!  I do not know the back story, but I know it came from a great home because it is in mint condition, still works,  and like yours, the only thing that shows its age is the fabric that covers the speakers.
