Congrats, guys! I would love to see pics of those pendants when they are up!
It all began with a search for a few, replacement pieces of glazed, bathroom tile for the ‘58 ranch referred to in the story. Now, after a few months of being totally self-absorbed by the wealth of resourceful information, and the warmth and kindness of all who frequent Retro Renovation, I find myself posting my very first entry.
Aside from the main focus of the contest, I continuously pondered another underlying theme while writing my entry: how modern technology has afforded us the opportunity to share our admiration for all things retro. It has linked us all based on a special, common interest. How difficult it would be to find the resources to restore and furnish our vintage homes, and to reflect upon so many accomplishments, without modern technology. And, would I ever have located the original Kokeshi?
A special thank you to Pam for devoting so much time and enthusiasm to Retro Renovation. Your site provides so much useful information and inspires so many of us to strive for the best in our renovation efforts, as we continuously enhance our lives with the retro spirit. Thank you, “Femme1″, for narrowing the contestant field…no easy task, considering all of the wonderful stories. Also, thank you, Satellite Lighting and Schiffer Books, for offering such excellent prizes. Finally, thanks to all the readers, whose stories and encouraging comments really provide a necessary impetus to those who have yet to complete a renovation project. You make Retro Renovation a special community!
Restoration of the all-original, ‘58 ranch is now in progress…upon completion, photos will be posted.

Pam,
Wow! This is so exciting…I’m thrilled to be one of the winners. I really can’t believe it–there were so many great entries. It was great fun to participate in the contest and read so many wonderful anecdotes. I’m so appreciative of your blog for the wealth of resources, wonderful flickr photo collection and most importantly for the community here you have brought together.
I have a special place for the “bibles” on my shelf–right next to my complete set of “The Practical Encyclopedia of Good Decorating and Home Improvement” and my 1961 edition of “Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Book.” Woo hoo!
Meredith
Congratulations to you both, very deserving winners! Enjoy the heck outta those prizes!
I have to say that it was very difficult to choose five semifinalists from the amazing amount of entries and that I’m sorry there couldn’t have been MORE winners. Being an editor and writer, I did give points for how well the story of the object was conveyed, as well as for the artfulness of the object itself.
So congrats to the winners! (Should I say here that we’re ALL winners?)
