A vintage Georges Braque poster from 1953 – Jill’s entry

jills-Braque -Nov-Dec-1953-exhibit-advert 011.jpgJill’s entry…

Hi Pam,

This is an entry for the “Found objects…Found art” Contest. This is poster from 1953 for an art show by Georges Braque. My parents had this poster in our hallway for as long as I can remember when I was growing up. My Mother was going to throw it out because they were going to paint the hallway and this was tattered at the edges.I loved it and I rescued it by putting it in a frame so that you can’t see the edges.

This now has a permanent home in my living room and I love it!

I wanted to share it with you,

Jill

50s housewives would have approved of this Nutone Deluxe Ironing Center

nutone-deluxe-ironing-centerI am in love with this NuTone Deluxe Ironing Center – with a plug, a light and a swiveling ironing board built right in. Just like a mid century housewife, I love any kind of recessed appliance. They are so handy to have if you are working in a small space. This model also has the ability to use a mirrored door, so you could even put it in your bedroom. At my house, I iron in the mudroom, I wish I had installed one there so I didn’t have to lug the humongous ironing board out every time.  Nutone Ironing Centers

Vintage styrofoam Magi-Cups – Chay’s entry

chays-magic-cup.jpgChay’s entry into our Found Objects Found Art contest. P.S. Chay, we need to seem more of that flamingo pink laminate, dear!…

We found this little beauty when we were cleaning out the “mother-in-law” house of our 1947 ranch. For me it speaks of the optimism of the mid-twentieth century. It is hard to believe that styrofoam would have been considered magic anything- especially in today’s green age. Yet, in all actuality, styrofoam is “greener” than paper and uses less energy and materials to produce. According to the wrapper, these cups could be used at home or the office, for picnics, poolside, parties, patios and bar-b-q’s. More amazing still is that they are still intact in their original wrapper – apparently they weren’t as “magic” as they advertised. The original buyers only used 3 of the six cups.

Anthropomorphic vintage lollipop containers – Kim’s entry

shelbys-lollipops.jpg

Kim’s entry into our Found Objects Found Art contest. Gosh, I love the opportunity to use the word ‘anthropomorphic’ in a headline; I don’t think it will help my google juice much, though….

She writes:

I found each of these lollipop goodies at different estate sales. I love the anthropomorphic lollipop on the round container! Both of these items are proudly displayed in my bathroom, as I have re-purposed them to hold cotton balls, etc.

Thanks,
