Retro Renovation’s Countertop & Metal Edging Design Tips from pam kueber on Vimeo. Laminate countertops with metal edging are among the most popular choices for homeowners updating the kitchens in their mid century homes. In this video, I show you the Formica Skylark boomerang countertops in my aquamarine kitchen… We take a look at the [...]

For either kitchen or, especially, bathroom countertops, I believe that Carrara marble laminates are an authentic vintage choice. I blinded myself searching for them among the 8 retailers of laminate in the U.S. today. The number-one choice, I think, is going to be from Wilsonart — their White Carrara, shown above. Read on for some [...]

I have been working on retro laminates lately – and originally thought there were only these big five: Wilsonart, Formica, Pionite, Nevamar and Arborite. But – I’ve now discovered a 6th company – Arpa USA. They have a terrific-looking portfolio — of solids, in particular. Some of the greens come darn close to that famous [...]

This week I heard from Jeff, who uses vintage speckled laminate for his banjo finger boards. I just think that is so cool… you know I am part Kentuckian. P.S. Can someone tell me how to get the accent mark over the ‘e’, as in lame’ … as I am dying to write lame’ laminate? [...]

Okay, this is the last day of my little fixation with retro laminates. (For now.) As you know, I am a devotee of the Sherwin Williams Suburban Modern palette, both interior and exterior. So, I have gone through Arpa’s line of solid-colored laminates and for the most part, been able to line up 10 colors [...]

Hope someone puts it to good use, too bad I can’t. I am starting to think American Standard never made a LH drain tub. It seems I always run across the RH ones.
Yeah, I thought about getting these too, but I couldn’t get the Mrs to agree, and the tub drain is on the wrong side for our house as well. Anyone know where I can get an American Standard F2005 toilet like that in white?
50sGuy: You are on a quest. Watch craigslist in as broad a swatch as you can drive…also, watch deabath.com.
American Standard did make tubs with drains on the left! I have a yellow one!
Kitty Mommy – thanks for that confirmation. I imagine all the big makers made drains on both sides – home building was booming.
Yes, I am indeed on a quest. I can be quite dangerous when cut loose on the highway with an empty van and a handful of greenbacks.
I’ve already hit up all the ReStores and most of the architectural salvage shops in the nearby area. Scored quite a few items for the bathroom and kitchen already. Will send pics once we get finished.
NorthsideCj and 50sGuy: I have a LH pink tub, if you are interested. I’m over near Ft. Wayne in Indiana. Also a matching pink toilet (needs a new seat, though). post again if you are interested!
Stella and all: All buying and selling goes onto the Forum please: http://retrorenovation.com/forum – and available anytime via the blue Forum link up top, right. Good luck.
