Kitchens – Countertops

“…Eliminates the final telltale sign of laminate – the brown line.” I am a big believer in the idea that the most significant design shifts tend to come from technological breakthroughs. The advance of laminate kitchen countertops — replacing linoleum and wood in most kitchens in the 1950s — came as a result of the [...]

I am updating this Retro Renovation “Classic” post for Tiel, her husband, and all readers looking for classic 50s and 60s metal countertop edging. Trust me – this is the real deal: My husband hunted down the only place left — in Astoria, Queens — that still made the exact stainless steel edging on 50s [...]

UPDATE (Oct 2011): Click over to –> this story to get an update on all three sources for boomerang laminate. In wake of the news that Formica is discontinuing, or has discontinued, two shades of our beloved boomerang laminate, I started receiving reports from readers of other discontinuations. I checked with the super duper helpful [...]

13 new retro modern style laminates from Formica

I was looking for a retro pastel shade of yellow laminate for a vintage trailer I am rebuilding and I liked the look of this Neon Yellow Formica. I purchased a sheet and found it to be MUCH brighter than it appears on the sample computer scans. It does indeed live up to it name of NEON Yellow. Just wanted to give others the heads up.
Argh, Jim, sorry you had that experience. With laminate or paint chips or anything really…you need to see samples first-hand before committing….online color resolution is impossible to depend upon. Thanks for the “neon” warning.
Another laminate you might take a look at: Arpa’s soft yellow seen here: http://retrorenovation.com/2008/10/02/retro-laminates-colors-from-arpa-compared-to-the-sherwin-williams-suburban-modern-palette/
