How cool, Hoover has reintroduced vintage style Constellation vacuum cleaners. They include modern technology like HEPA filters, and yes — they apparently float! Two colors – a pearlescent white (shown) or in stainless steel. They are currently listed on Amazon for $230 from Allergy be Gone — I added them to my Pamazon store.

Kitchens – Countertops

Following up on Monday’s exciting post about the Arpa USA palette of solid-color laminates, let’s take a look at how to use this material to recreate this 1959 Ma Bell kitchen. It would be oh-so-easy! Elements include: Laminate cabinetry using Arpa’s “Jardin” colorway. Cabinet pulls: Rejuvenation’s new midcentury “sharp arch”, in satin chrome Countertops are [...]

I’ve written before about mixing countertop surfaces in your 40s 50s or 60s kitchen. But I recently came across these great photos and thought they would be very helpful. The photos show: How to lower cabinetry to create a place to roll out your pie dough (of course). Put a slab of marble here — [...]

Maryland Nancy is searching for laminate for her bathroom reno, and alerted me that the colorful Nevamar swirlie’s are discontinued. Alas. So, I did another survey — and here is an update of the laminates landscape for bathroom vanity countertops, as far as I can determine. Scroll over each image with your mouse to see [...]

When folks move into new/old 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s or 1970s homes, it seems like one of the biggest and most common needs is to update materials in the kitchen that are on their last legs. In general, if you have a laminate countertop that is in good shape, I’d say: Keep it. Or [...]

Isn’t it great?! …Right up there with the Teacups Chandelier we looked at a while ago. Related Posts Basement bowling alley in 1962 Michigan time capsule house for sale — heaven! What [...]

My 1955 vintage Hoover constellation vacuum cleaner
Cleaners, polishes and porcelain repair for mid-century homes

I just picked up a new Hoover Constellation in Pearl White at the Direct Tools Factory Outlet in Jeffersonville, OH for $99! I am so excited! I even picked up a couple of bags of replacement HEPA filtration bags for $3 each!
I remember this vacuum from my childhood. I was fascinated by the hovercraft effect.
I just found a stainless steel version at a second hand store and got it for $15.00, the crevice tool and round brush were missing but thats all. The hose was damaged at both ends so I cut the spring part with wire cutters and peeled the damaged hose out of both connector ends and glued the remaining ends back in with E6000, good as new and the hose is only 6 inches shorter. I love the hepa filtration!
