For either kitchen or, especially, bathroom countertops, I believe that Carrara marble laminates are an authentic vintage choice. I blinded myself searching for them among the 8 retailers of laminate in the U.S. today. The number-one choice, I think, is going to be from Wilsonart — their White Carrara, shown above. Read on for some [...]

I have been on a tear, of late, researching laminates. Considering how Greige and Granite-y 99% of what’s out there is, I want to provide Retro Renovators with the broadest researched selection possible of designs that have a more historical, retro appeal. After I learned that Formica’s butcher block laminate has been in production since [...]

Update: Almost all of these designs are now discontinued. See my up-to-date stories on all retro laminates here: Kitchen/Countertops Category. UPDATE (Oct 2011): Click over to –> this story to get an update on all three sources for boomerang laminate. The countertops I removed from the two vanities in my 1951 bathrooms were [...]

They both have a nice retro groove, underscored by their names, Atomic Orange and Atomic Turf. Back in the postwar era, there were a number of laminates that had [...]

If you are looking for retro-style laminate for a kitchen or bathroom countertop, you have some blinding research ahead of you. Unless there is a home-run-out-of-the-park solution — like the boomerangs, crackle ice or dogbone still available — it’s going to be a hunt-peck-and-forage to find something that’s “close enough” to original laminates from the [...]

Where do I get the legs with the wrap-around sink supporter for the kitchen sink like the one in this picture or can only the legs hold the sink?
Esther, I’m not sure I understand your question. The supports shown in this photo are for a wall-hung bathroom sink…
Does anyone know where I could purchase one of these supports for a kitchen sink or can it built of wood?
Hi Esther, the Clarion farmhouse sink shown in this post also can be purchased with legs. Maybe you can buy the legs separately: http://retrorenovation.com/2009/02/27/create-a-sweet-pre-war-bungalow-kitchen/
Google “clarion sink” to find various online suppliers.
There may be others out there – but this style pre-dates WWII. This site and my knowledge of resources is for postwar kitchens….
Esther, more info, three styles here: http://www.vintagetub.com/lookup/search.aspx?RefID=01-K14-QDPW&Group=&keywords=sink+legs&x=0&y=0
Again, google like crazy to see what you can find from various potential suppliers…
