A blanket made from your favorite, childhood tee shirts. My girlfriend Linda had one made from her childhood tee shirts about 15 years ago – and I always thought it was the coolest idea. I spotted this etsy seller – art2theextreme of Fishers, Indiana — whose shop seamstress can convert your tee shirt into a custom tee shirt memory blanket for $95.

So here is a little piece of trim made to fit between the edge of your countertop and the edge of your stove, to prevent all manner of food from dropping down between. Hmmm, a handy dandy that I didn’t even know I needed, but which I am pretty sure would make DH, a neat freak, very happy. [...]

I’ve written before about mixing countertop surfaces in your 40s 50s or 60s kitchen. But I recently came across these great photos and thought they would be very helpful. The photos show: How to lower cabinetry to create a place to roll out your pie dough (of course). Put a slab of marble here — [...]

Seems like I’m starting the week off with the spotlight on RESOURCES! I was checking out Formica’s site recently – and saw these two new laminates. They both have a nice retro groove, underscored by their names, Atomic Orange and Atomic Turf. Back in the postwar era, there were a number of laminates that had [...]

These are new from Formica. Both look like they could swing either “warm” or “cool” – that is, work across the spectrum from reds (and pinks) to blues. I really like the Linen – a very typical look for the 50s — Hey, Formica, can we have it in green, blue, pink and yellow?!: And, [...]

As follow up to my post yesterday – with a round up of all the laminates for bathroom counters that are on my radar today – I also recently found this great little history of laminate in the 1950s, from Wilsonart. 2011 update, Wilsonart has taken story down, but here are a few highlights: Laminate [...]

Brilliant, a wonderful spin on vintage memory quilts.
Now I want to make one. I can see a travel one for the RV. I bet they are really comfy.
I’d love to do the same thing with all the cool graphic tees I see out there. I’ve actually started a pile of t-shirts that I’ve retired, but don’t want to get rid of because I still the graphics on them. I’ve actually thought about making a quilt out of it… it was interesting to see this blog go up! Thanks for it.
I first saw one of these about 25 years ago. A man who was a runner had a quilt made out of T-shirts he got at road races. He didn’t have enough storage space for all the T-shirts and couldn’t begin to wear them all, but he hated to get rid of them because they were reminders of fun days in his life. The quilt was the perfect way to preserve his memories.
