God I'm glad I don't live there! One more thing to haul back to the garage! The girlfriend is sooooo understanding (er...tolerant?). Her collecting OCD is mid century costume jewelry which she cleverly stores on a rolling aluminum backers rack or "speed rack". She has many times the number of vintage items and takes up a fraction of the space. Me, I bring home non-functional refrigerators like lost puppies!

Hey Tina, be sure and check out ReBuild in Springfield down next to Southern Iron Works, and see Megan there. She's got a beautiful mint green set (toilet & sink) in stock as well as some gorgeous other vintage bathroom goodies. They get quite a bit of 50's stuff from donations from teardowns/remodels in N. VA.

Boy that is nice. Too bad it's missing a knob. Those are probably difficult, but not impossible, to find. You could also put generic ones on there that would work, but then someone like myself would come along and notice that it's not original.

Thanks, Candice. For those on the hunt - these are factors they should become familiar with ahead of time so they don't end up with a *surprise project* entailing unintended expenditures.

Just an FYI to other gas stove folks, you CAN retrofit a newer safety valve if your municipality requires it. Also, many 1950's+ stoves already had such features.

We have a 1956 Thermador cooktop in our house or we would snatch this up right now! Wow! I would suggest that if you don't live in Alexandria or around there but would love to have this stove, you should consider buying it and having a freight company pick it up for you and ship it. My husband and I just bought a beautiful 1956 fridge with relatively new exterior paint and lazy susan shelves for $125 on Ebay. We had a freight company pick it up from the guy's house in Tampa and for about $500 had it shipped to our house in Las Vegas. When items are that cheap, we figure we needn't wait for them to be nearby. Feel free to email me if you want the name of our freight company.
