Wow Pam! I knew that the overall color of my bathroom was influenced by Mamie but I had no idea that the design was so similar to her actual bathroom. I love history, great post. Maybe I'll have to go with a green bathroom like Mr. President's when I get around to redoing the downstairs bath. I really like the way the green dots pop against the white octagons.

Makes me want to visit the site in Gettysburg- it's less than 2 hours from us here in PA. Thanks for expanding my knowledge of pink and American history at the same time!

Yay for Mamie! My favorite color has always been pink too since I was little, aqua is my other favorite and I like touches of black with the combo, that's my decorating main colors, I like to dress in pink a lot too, in fact one day I wasn't wearing pink and hubby asked if I was feeling okay, I asked why and he said you aren't wearing pink! Hehe

That is a great article!

Love her bedroom and especially bathroom. My Mom has the best pink 50s bathroom ever, it was my grandparents and has the coolest wallpaper in pink and sparkly gold starbursts etc that I have ever seen, I will have to get pics of it.
Ike's bathroom is pretty too, it reminds me of mine except I have blue tile, but the layout from what I can see is the same, mine might be tinier though!

When I was in grade school, I did a report on Dwight Eisenhower because we share a birthday, and because I had seen Mamie's birthplace, in Iowa, I think. Don't remember learning much about Mamie at the time, and I'm glad to do so now!

Excellent post! I never knew Mamie was to be credited for the pink influence. It makes so much sense!
