We have some nice looking cabinet pulls to consider today… a lovely looking Moe ceiling fixture…and for you AtomicBowler, at the very end, a truly wonderful Mac Levy Beauty & Reducing Home Steam Bath that the lady of the house can use after she ate too much at the party where she wore the paper dress. I know how you like your gizmoes and gadgets, Dave.

Kitchens – Countertops

When folks move into new/old 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s or 1970s homes, it seems like one of the biggest and most common needs is to update materials in the kitchen that are on their last legs. In general, if you have a laminate countertop that is in good shape, I’d say: Keep it. Or [...]
Wowza — here is a ton — several tons, actually! — of vintage Consoweld laminate likely to come on the market soon. I never cease to be amazed at the retro treasures out there, yet to be unearthed. Interestingly, this seller first posted this on our Forum — but then got so much interest, put [...]

How is this one, Retro Renovation readers? I recently scored a full box of est. 1960-65 era GE Textolite laminate samples, absolute mint condition unused. This is the first bunch — the others aren’t so over-the-top FABULOUS, but still are great gauges of what to look for. OMG. What else do I need to say. [...]

I am updating this Retro Renovation “Classic” post for Tiel, her husband, and all readers looking for classic 50s and 60s metal countertop edging. Trust me – this is the real deal: My husband hunted down the only place left — in Astoria, Queens — that still made the exact stainless steel edging on 50s [...]

Merry Mint-in-Box Madness

The first item in this group, the polished brass drawer pulls, are exactly like the ones in my kitchen (except mine have a copper finish). I wish these were copper because several of mine are very worn and the finish has come off in a very unsightly way. I did email the seller, asking for a picture of the box, so that I can find out about the manufacturer and keep an eye out for some of these beauties in copper!
I just bought a set of those Christmas Linen towels from ebay last week. One of them is identical to the two you have featured. I love them!! I also bought a 1950′s Macy’s poster of a reindeer that I’m going to crop and frame for my living room. I love the ability to purchase vintage Christmas items from ebay!! It’s my new addicition this year, haha.
Hey – that Steam Bath and reducer looks exactly like one that Lucy used in one of her episodes to lose weight!
Oh my gosh, Alice. Now I need it even more!
It was a long, cold, grey day around the water, made worse by interludes of office work that were so boring they made my eyes nearly fall out.
I dragged two tool bags each about 65-70 pounds home with me on the commuter bus for a couple of weekend projects.
I ate too much for dinner and then played the lamest board game I’ve ever seen (now we KNOW why it was at the thrift store!).
Then I read this post, looked at the goodie, and near well laughed my ever-enlarging seat cushion off! (Perhaps it is the MAN of the house who needs it worse!)
Thanks, Pam, and best for the holiday!
Dave
Hi Dave, glad you liked it. Don’t think about while you’re gobbling down the turkey dinner. Seems like there was no end to the ideas for milady to improve her life in the postwar era.
And yep, Pam knows me all too well. The kids and I just made the pumpkin pie filling today the hard way using a ricer, by hand. Indeed I do love my gidgets (don’t tell Laura, lol!) and gadgets.

We bought one of the seller’s chrome finished boxes of pulls for our newly restored bathrooms. We needed them quickly and the seller zoomed them to us in no time! They look just swell with the boomerang laminates (blue in one bath and grey in the other) we we used on the front of the cupboards.
