Drexel Declaration furniture is so beautiful. It definitely is one of my favorites, and I think it is still “around” at decent prices. This Kipp Stewart Drexel Declaration bench or settee, on craigslist in Washington, D.C. / Northern Virginia has such lovely lines.

To me, what this furniture line does so well is to bridge the colonial – modern divide. The modernism is not harsh, the early American is not precious. For example, this lister calls this “Danish Modern.” But, I think there is just as much Shaker in this bench. Benches like this (and there are many other lovely designs from other manufacturers, too) are perfect for a foyer, if you have the room.

I like it. It’s a bonus that it would fit 3 kids in time out at the same time..
So pretty! I like declaration too. It does have a nice mix.
We should declare a holiday in honor of Kip Stewart’s design. They are priceless pieces that will withstand time. Bravo!
And remember Stewart MacDougall, too. I recently learned he was even more influential in the design of this line.
I have a king-sized headboard in this same pattern that belonged to my parents, and I absolutely hate it. I guess I should put it on eBay — I guess someone will appreciate it.
I do like the matching dresser and nightstands that was part of this series; just don’t care for the headboard or the dining room chairs (or the settee above, though I appreciate it more now that you’ve explained the colonial/MCM bridge).
