What to buy the mid-mod man in your life this holiday season? Mr. Retro Renovation has Everything, so it is exceptionally hard. I’ve been prowling around all week and have come up with a few things. Lilly Pulitzer 2010 day planner
If I buy a pretty planner, will it force me to get more organized? Here’s the one I want — the Lilly Pulitzer 2010 “Time Flies” planner full of die cuts and stickers and Lilly prints and “surprises.” It’s $24.95 here.
Hunker down with favorite seed catalogs
My friend Margaret is the go-to-goddess of gardening with her luminous blog, awaytogarden.com. She has an extensive list of favorite seed catalogs, and with old man winter now upon us here in New England, she recently launched a discussion of her favorite seed catalogs, old and new, and asked her readers for theirs, as well. Forget the visions of sugarplums…I’m spending my long winter nights dreaming of spring and all the little pretties to go into my garden. Image: Select Seeds Cosmos “Rubenza” – a top-10 in 2009 seed.

The 1960s are poised to turn 50…and to mark the anniversary the LA Conservancy has created a website spotlighting architecture and history of the period in the city, and is also running educational programs through the year. Heck yeah there is more →
Upcycled journals from vintage library books

The ones that I bought — for holiday gifts, if I can bear to part with them — include the original pocket for the library check-out card. Oh my, they are so sweet! I purchased my journals from Moe O’Hara, recycle artist extraordinaire from Burlington, Vermont, and her attention to detail and quality seems very high. Heck yeah there is more →
