Sexy paint colors for Veronica’s 1976 black and white kitchen

picasso hand with flowers1976 kitchenRetro Renovation readers had terrific ideas for paint colors for Veronica’s original 1976 kitchen. I agree with a great many of their suggestions, and also noodled the question on my own. First up, though, I gotta agree with lots of readers on this piece of advice: DON’T DO ANYTHING RASH, Veronica. Don’t move in and right away start ripping out or painting over original stuff – unless there are documented environmental, safety or serious quality issues to address. Heck yeah there is more →

“Save the Pink Bathrooms” in the national spotlight

nancy's bathroomWe interrupt our regularly scheduled programming with breaking news: The New York Times has done a big ole story on the resurgence of vintage pink bathrooms — spotlighting our little Save The Pink Bathrooms quest and moreover: Readers Glamorlux NancyJanice… and Nora… as well as advertiser John of deabath.com… flickr friend Tamelyn… and STPB commenter Michael. Oh my goodness gracious, it’s not every day you see pink bathrooms on the front page of the New York Times (well, online version, at least). The big photo inside is Nancy, glamming it up in her pink poodle bathroom. And, there’s a whole sidebar story about Nora, who, with the help of reader Christopher, I also was able to connect to Times writer Kate Murphy. Thanks to everyone for participating, you done good for pink bathrooms!
.
This post isn’t just a yeehaw!, though. I want to welcome new folks coming in via the NYT and point you to some of the additional back stories about the readers featured:

Readers — Be sure to check out the entire New York Times story on “Bathrooms – Pretty in Pink” … along with the lovely sidebar on Nora, who wisely advises, “If you love something, it never goes out of style.”

Let’s help Veronica with paint color ideas for her 1976 kitchen

1976 kitchenNow that the holiday frenzy is kinda sorta dying down, I’m getting back in the groove with features about reader homes. Did I say “groove”? Veronica — who is closing on her first house — a 1976 contemporary — today, is already chomping at the bit to get her retro nesting under way.  And, she wants our help with  paint colors for this 1976 kitchen. Interestingly, this is really typical of how readers find my site: They make an offer on a new/old house… immediately begin online research on how to renovate and update it … and land right here among us, sucked into our “back-dating” retro vortex.
