Here’s a new resource for mint-in-box mid-century bath hardware: Anderson’s Classic Hardware in West Palm Beach, Florida. I’ve talked to these folks before — and like many other local places that have been in business for decades, they recently discovered some old stock in the back room. They are now listing it online, bit by bit. So, it’s best to check back now and then. For example: I love this little Hall-Mack Aristochrome robe hook. The scale is SO much better than much of the on-steroids designs today. $12 at Anderson’s Classic Hardware.

Kitchens – Countertops

I have been working on retro laminates lately – and originally thought there were only these big five: Wilsonart, Formica, Pionite, Nevamar and Arborite. But – I’ve now discovered a 6th company – Arpa USA. They have a terrific-looking portfolio — of solids, in particular. Some of the greens come darn close to that famous [...]

So here is a little piece of trim made to fit between the edge of your countertop and the edge of your stove, to prevent all manner of food from dropping down between. Hmmm, a handy dandy that I didn’t even know I needed, but which I am pretty sure would make DH, a neat freak, very happy. [...]

Our arsenal of suppliers for metal kitchen countertop edging continues to grow — with the addition of Eagle Moulding, a distributor in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Eagle Mouldings’ large inventory includes a two styles of aluminum countertop edgings, in a variety of sizes.Eagle Moulding is the direct supplier to many furniture manufacturers and, in fact, I see at [...]

“…Eliminates the final telltale sign of laminate – the brown line.” I am a big believer in the idea that the most significant design shifts tend to come from technological breakthroughs. The advance of laminate kitchen countertops — replacing linoleum and wood in most kitchens in the 1950s — came as a result of the [...]

In my recent story about authentic 1950s 1960s and 1970s kitchen remodeling products still made today, I spotlighted Elkay Lustertone stainless steel drainboard sinks — made back in the day and still available today. Over the past year, I’ve been in touch with a reader who was preparing to install a new Elkay sink top [...]

Thanks for sharing this Pam! I just ordered that robe hook you pictured above. It’s going to be great when I get the bathroom finished!
“Out of Stock” Arggggg….Missouri Michael!
Oh well, maybe next time I’ll be up early enough. haha.
jeanne – i’ll be on the lookout for more for you!
Great prices for genuine mid century.
mornin, what I like best is that they are charging realistic prices the average Joe or Jane can afford. sshhhhhhhhh

I was hoping for one of those snazzy retractable towel hooks and one of the spinning compartments you install on the wall to hide your toothbrush.
Joe – I’m always on the lookout for ya. The spinning compartments = very desirable, harder and harder to find. If I ever get my act together, I’ll find the ONE that I have in the attic somewhere and list it on ebay or etsy. Oh, and I have a few retractable towel hooks, too, of course. In the summer. When it’s warm enough to go up there, and when I MUST HAVE A TAG SALE.
Tag Sale, eh? That’s definitely worth a trip up the coast to see what you’ve got. After we finally finish the kitchen the bathroom is next on the list of items to get “retro-renovated”.
Divine! Fortunately for me (unfortunately for the ol’ wallet), I am in sunny South Florida and need to add this joint to my list of places to visit.
