That is a vintage Daystrom dinette, folks, and I swear if there were one aquamarine chair, this item would not be on the blog: I’d be on my way with in my 1999 Ford Ranger to Wilmington, DE, to make it mine. Drats. There are some terrific kitchen cabinet pulls – at a great price, and available in large multiples (I think). Oh, and my bargello mania continues. I’m finding lots of good stuff these days. Where to find speckled gold laminate? Also called “lame” (with an accent on the “e”, as in “lam-ae.”) A typical reader question, like this one: Hello – I really hope you can help me. I have been searching for weeks with no luck. I have an old trailer from the 50′s and need to replace [...]

I am updating this Retro Renovation “Classic” post for Tiel, her husband, and all readers looking for classic 50s and 60s metal countertop edging. Trust me – this is the real deal: My husband hunted down the only place left — in Astoria, Queens — that still made the exact stainless steel edging on 50s [...]

UPDATE (Oct 2011): Click over to –> this story to get an update on all three sources for boomerang laminate. Where to find a retro Formica countertop for a red, black and white kitchen? Pamela recently wrote to ask: Hi! I bought a home a couple of years ago … it’s a 10-year-old FL ranch, [...]

So here is a little piece of trim made to fit between the edge of your countertop and the edge of your stove, to prevent all manner of food from dropping down between. Hmmm, a handy dandy that I didn’t even know I needed, but which I am pretty sure would make DH, a neat freak, very happy. [...]

Another first for the blog and our Retro Renovation journey: Last night I spotted vintage Geneva steel kitchen cabinets in a Target commercial. Don’t they look fantastic! Continue on for the close-up and more play-by-play commentary —> I think the countertop is some variety of solid surface material – a very sleek, modern look. And, I’m guessing that [...]

Vintage Schlage doorplates, Lightolier bathroom light and more

I know that “advice” is not given on the site … but does anyone know if a Schlage escutchen will fit on a Kwikset lock. I feel that the Kwikset is a newer lock (from the look of the doorknob), but can clearly see the outline of an ‘atomic escutchen’ imprinted on the original wood door. I’d love to replace what is missing!
hi Janet, to clarify, I’m okay with basic household stuff being on the site. but when diy and fixit questions start getting more complicated and especially if they enter the realm of environmental and safety issues, that’s when i say nix — on these things, i recommend professional advice.
Small world! As soon as you said Wilmo Delaware, I had to give that set another glance and totally recognized the shelving in the background- I used to work in that shop! They did buyouts for folks moving and sometimes we’d get some really cool mid century stuff that I loved and all the nice old ladies I worked with just scratched their heads and smiled at me. I didn’t make much money at that time, but what a great job to be able to help old folks move, and see their stuff- sometimes in their original setting. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I was going to say that the red and the purple chair would both look awesome reupholstered in turquoise, but I see that the seat matches the frame.
Great find! Someone buy it and go with a “candy” theme for your kitchen.
