Rebecca is collecting ideas to update the 1961 kitchen in her Ann Arbor tri-level, and she recently asked me what I thought of this kitchen flooring collection: Cushion Step Impressions vinyl sheet flooring from Armstrong. I thought it looked nice, so I asked my contact at Armstrong if she could send me some samples, and she did. (Thanks, Michele!) The box arrived yesterday and: I like the look of this stuff a lot — especially the faux gray terrazzo (above) and the two faux linoleums (shown in the slide show after the jump). P.S., it’s kind of an inside joke to call a vinyl sheet flooring “faux linoleum” because linoleum is itself usually “faux marble.” So, I don’t get too hung up on “faux.” Heck yeah there is more →

1950s tablecloths from Vermont Country Store
Every few months it’s good to remind that Vermont Country Store has lots of great vintage-inspired housewares. Kay recently wrote:
I was looking for tablecloths today and was delighted to find the Vermont Country Store is offering two tablecloths that are reproductions of 1950′s designs. They also carry woven tablecloths that have been made in Vermont for 150 years, so they would have graced tables in 1950′s homes.
These are beautiful. Thanks, Kay, for the tip. ![]()
Retro bathroom sconce from Menards for as little as $7.98
Here’s another super inexpensive light that would look great in a mid-century bathroom. Thanks to Jen, who writes:
Speaking of recent finds, Menards just put this funky sunburst light on clearance in the Chicago area for $7.98. Listed online for $10.99. Not vintage of course, but a fun find.

Lilac bathroom: Groovy baby, 1965
You don’t see many lilac bathrooms. Tina — who recently was able to purchase her childhood home, spotted this bathroom at (a different) open house and sent in several photos. Heck yeah there is more →
The amazing Electrolux estate sale + Upload your weekend finds for all to see
There are days I truly think my life is a Tim Burton movie, and Saturday was one of them. I headed into the weekend thinking that there were no estate sales. And I have to admit: I was relieved. I needed a break from the insane frenzy that I get into, when there is a potential houseful of mid-century treasures to be Unearthed.
.
Also today: Upload your own weekend thrifting finds to our community slide show, too:

Metal kitchen cabinets for sale on the Retro Renovation Forum – what’s new & interesting
Activity on the Forum has been as busy as I can ever recall. 52PostnBeam continues to do an amazing job unearthing vintage metal kitchen cabinets for sale all over the U.S. And Scathing Jane is all over vintage bathroom fixtures. They, and actual sellers, also post collectible appliances that show up on craigslist (mostly.) Today… a little selection of what’s popped up on the Forum recently. Above: 52PnB posted this amazingly beauteous set of vintage Morton metal kitchen cabinets currently available in that mecca of all mid-mod, St. Louis. Many thanks, 52PnB, and Scathing Jane, for all the work you do. I really appreciate it. Heck yeah there is more →
A 1948 home theater – yes, 1948
A 1948 home theater? Yup. What goes around comes around, and this basement home theater — featuring those old film reels in cans — doesn’t look all too different from many home theaters today with their big, flat, wide screens tucked into the wall just like the cinema. Thanks to Tamara, who found this illustration in a 1948 Chromedge catalog. Heck yeah there is more →
