Retro Renovation TV is up and running, and here is my first video. Actually, it is the first in a three-part series, spotlighting my blue bathroom renovation. In this first video, I talk about basic design decisions that I made. In video #2 (tomorrow), I will talk about some features that turned out great and which I like a lot. And in video #3 (Friday), I will talk about things I’d change if I had it to do over again. Overall, though, I was very happy with the way this bathroom turned out. And the video, too. The video is not perfect – but it’s a start. And hey, my intern/director/editor John Gervasi and I did it all ourselves. The media empire grows. All that said, this is the first time we’ve tried this. So there’s some things to improve. Like, I gotta figure out how to add music… and there are a few mis-spokens. Like: that’s not a lav faucet, it’s an 8″ spread, etc. For example: Depending on your internet service, it might take some time to load the video. Let me know if there are any issues, and we’ll see what we need to do to make this all go smoothly … because I love doing videos, they are such a great tool to talk about design dilemmas and solutions. 🙂

Pam you have great taste, you are friendly, pretty and informative and the video is wonderful. Not a bit stuffy or high handed (or silly, like some decorative guru on cable TV the name I will not mention). I’m a fan and always find your retro tips very helpful.

Thank you! I am finishing up on saving two blue bathrooms (w/atomic-telstar squiggles) exactly like your blue. Your towel color is perfect! I love it! Thank you for the information on plumbing fixtures, shower pan and grout. If I cannot save & must gut in the future, that is exactly what I’d like to know. It is great to see you looking exactly like we all look when we’re working on our homes. No need to doll up or worry about lipstick Pam. You look like our friend, who has the best ideas and information. Great videos!

LOVED the videos, Pam!
Great to hear the “highs and lows” of your design choices, and I kept thinking we’d be great friends if only I lived closer! 😉
Thanks for helping me aim to love the house I’m in,
Amy

Your videos are great! I’ve posted a link to the gardenweb/bathrooms. The shower video was especially helpful. Everyone can visualize the space now. Shower space is one of the most asked questions there. I don’t think you need music with them. Just talk, misspeaks and all.

I love the videos. It’s great to see what you did and didn’t ultimately like.
I TOTALLY agree with the grab bar. We put one in our shower, knowing we’ll need it in a few short years. It turns out we use it daily for balance and are thrilled to have it now.
The ones that were available at home improvement stores were very cheesy looking (compared with the other items going into the shower) so we ended up buying a very high end grab bar. I was dismayed at the price, but so glad we chose it, as it looks fab.
Thank you Pam!

I watched the videos in reverse order, so got to these comments last. The videos were great. I thought the pace was on the money; you spoke clearly, yet in an unaffected and natural manner. You included some excellent tips and insights.
As far as appearance, sure a little more blush and lip color would have brightened up your face, but I don’t know that it would have improved the effectiveness of the video. My immediate impression was of being a casual guest you were showing the new bathroom to while the coffee was brewing. The bare feet, jeans, T-shirt, minimum hair styling and make-up struck just the right note. I felt comfortable ‘visiting’ your home.
I had no problem with the video quality, although I realize the transition fades were more abrupt than the norm. Since long fades, whether in or out, automatically make me start counting how many seconds of my life I’ll never get back, I usually favor a few words preceding a direct cut. Sound quality was impressive, clear with no tiled-bathroom-echo effect.
Looking forward to more videos!

Pam,
I just discovered you and I am already addicted! I love your bathroom renovation! You did a great job. I would like to know where you got the faucets for your sink. I am looking for some like them.
Thanks for such an amazing resource.
