We sure do love our checkerboard floors — lots of ways to play with this idea. Suzanne writes:
Hi, Pam — Here’s the checkerboard floor in my 1941 house in Burbank, CA. Note the double border, my attempt to imitate Armstrong’s wonderful patterns of the period. Anyone in the LA area looking for flooring will be delighted with the selection at Linoleum City. And here’s my restored 1940s O’Keefe & Merritt 6-burner 2-oven, 2-broiler beauty. Keep up the good work! –Suzanne (Burbank, CA)

Hi, All-
Thank you all for your encouraging comments. Will post more pix.
Barbara–sorry you couldn’t get the link. Try LinoleumCity.com.
California Kathy–the stove came from Savon Appliances in Reseda. Go to SavonAppliance.com. The Burbank store sells mostly washers & dryers (that’s where I got my “new” ’60s stacking Maytag), & the Reseda store sells mostly stoves. Mine was totally refurbished, & I had them paint the knobs & handles red.
If you’d like to see a video narrative of the renovations on my house–including the pink bathroom–go to YouTube & key in REVA1040.
Thanks!

I’m really loving the stove! 🙂 Where’d you find it?

Gorgeous and very inspiring! We need to re-do our kitchen floor…previous owners put down some hideous stick-in tiles from Home Depot and every time I look at it I cringe (I’ve been doing a lot of cringing in the kitchen for the past 5 years…). I have not been be able to find anything I like yet, but have not done much research either. This gives me a starting point…going to show this to my husband so he knows what’s next on his honey-do list… 😉
