David and Kristin have the eye for mid century modern decorating, and, it turns out that Dave is one handy guy. A
fter I declared that orange is the Retro Renovation color of the year, he sent me photos of his living room of his 1959 split level house, with all the gorgeous orange accents. Of course, I also noticed the fantastic mid century modern panelled, or latticed, wall in the room. It turns out that he designed and installed the wall himself — for only $250 — and it’s 24 feet long! Today, he tells us how to make a panelled wall like this one.. and gives us peek inside his and Kristin’s lovely home. Heck yeah there is more →

My mid century modern kitchen — for Sims 3
Okay, here is a development out of the blog that I was not anticipating: Sarah creates”free custom content recolours for the Sims 2 and the Sims 3.” I think that means “Sim City,” but woah, I am out of my element. In her post on her blog, AweSims, Sarah says that she really likes my kitchen, and as a result, has created her own version of it for use in the Sims virtual world. Isn’t that cool? Straight from 1963 into —> The Matrix. I love Sarah’s “Geneva Kitchen” — which has been download 2,181 times (so far) — installed, I presume, in 2,181 virtual kitchens.

1948 Streamline Moderne time capsule house, Portland, Oregon
Gretchen spotted this glorious 1948 time capsule home, which was recently for sale (now sold) in Portland, Oregon. The house was listed by agent Kathryn Madison, these amazing photos — which Kathryn took – were originally featured on her blog Go Beyond the Ordinary. This house is particularly interesting in how it seems to bridge the Streamline Moderne and mid-century ranch eras. On the outside, it’s pretty ranch-looking, although you can see some hints of international streamline style. Inside, it’s a Streamline Moderne wonderland — starting with this incredible kitchen. . My single most prized possession is the granny square afghan that my granny crocheted for me. And, any time I mention it, I get lots of comments and emails. For example, Cheryl M. sent me the photo above of her afghan, explaining, “The afghan was knitted by my great-aunt more than 30 years ago. The calico kitty is my rescue, Lucy.” So sweet! Do you an afghan… or two or three… that you would like to share. Click on through — and upload photos of your vintage treasure right now for all to see –>
