4 retro bathroom towel designs from Anthropologie, Pottery Barn and Kmart

It can be hard to find new-old-stock vintage towels, and if they are not “new”, well, that can be kind of grody. Until recently, most bath towels available in today’s stores were solid colors. But I’ve definitely noticed a trend toward towels with vintage designs. Yay! This is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to push the retro envelope. Above: Anthropologie offers this style reminiscent of vintage Cannon bath towels– which I will dub “sculpted plush jacquard” style. There probably is a *real* term for this style of towel, though: Help welcomed. Heck yeah there is more →

Lorie recently wrote me a email “pitching” me her Rock and Roll Coasters, hand made from old 45 rpm records. I liked the look of these and asked if she could send me sample. She did. It came yesterday: Hey, These are Very Cool — I Like! Click on through for Lorie’s story and how she makes these lovely up-cycled coasters. –> Heck yeah there is more →
The average price of premium vintage steel kitchen cabinets in 2010: $39 per cabinet, according to 52PostnBeam analysis
What was the average price of a premium vintage steel kitchen cabinet purchased via craigslist in 2010? According to analysis by reader-expert 52PostnBeam aka Helen: $39. As regular readers of our Steel Cabinet Forum know well, Helen has been fiercely pursuing vintage metal cabinets for her own kitchen for the past year. Moveover, in her quest, she has posted hundreds of craigslist ads for all varieties of metal kitchen cabinets onto the Forum. 52PBnJ (as I like to call her) is one tenacious researcher. By this point, she can name virtually any cabinet by sight, and discuss the differences within brands over the years. It is very impressive! Now, Helen has taken it up another notch by cataloguing and analyzing the final listed sales prices of major cabinet sets for the past year. How much should you charge for your vintage steel kitchen cabinets? How much should you pay? The final decision will always be personal. But, read on for 52PnB’s analysis of 29 final sales of “premium” sets last year. –> Heck yeah there is more →
My first press trip – coming up this week
My “real career” is in corporate communications, where I got my start in 1984 working for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. I worked at Ford for 17 years, and for the first 10, I was pretty much focused on publicizing and launching new cars and trucks. As just a few examples: The original Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable… the original Explorer… the Aerostar… the ’94 Mustang… some Escorts in there… the Probe… the new Thunderbird… I’m sure I’m forgetting some biggies. Of course, a pivotal part of new-car and truck launches is: The press trip. You find a location, gather your vehicles and your company experts – and then bring in the journalists. I worked on a lot of these. So now, it amuses me to no end that I will be attending my first press trip, not as organizer/PR person – but as blogger/journalist. My host: Rustoleum. How to describe your use furniture on craiglist
If in doubt, here’s a handy dandy guide to create your craigslist ads — or to defend yourself against the marketing hyperbole. Used with permission from Lunchbreath: Thank you, Mr. LB, it’s serious work to keep us laughing at ourselves.
