DIY painter uses new Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations on 2 bathrooms & kitchen — $240 for kits instead of $20,000 for new
I recently wrote about my first press trip – to see and test-drive Rustoleum’s new “Cabinet Transformations” kitchen repainting kit. I was impressed with my experience – but there is nothing like a real-life testimonial from someone who has used the product on an entire kitchen. Did skeptical Connie like it? Yes. The minute she finished her first bathroom, she ran out for another kit to paint the second bathroom, then for more to repaint the kitchen. Here’s a snippet of her enthusiastic story:
What a great, great product. Tell Rustoleum they’re welcome to come over and shoot a commercial here if they want to. I wouldn’t want to be in it – I’m 59 years old and well past my expiration date. That’s what actressess and spokesmodels are for! I love the Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations – I swear I’m about ready to buy stock in the company. Heck yeah there is more →
Marcia Marcia Marcia! Vintage bathroom sinks — like the Crane Marcia — 25% off
Aren’t these Crane Marcia sinks adorable? Another reason for Jan to throw a conniption fit. Now through April 4, all vintage sinks, toilets, tubs at deabath.com are on sale – 25% off and in some cases, up to 40% off. If you’ve had your eye on some pink potty ware – or aqua and persian red and mint and yes, even white — now might be a good time to bite. Disclosure: deabath.com is currently an advertiser. But this isn’t part of the deal, I just went over to look for vintage prettiness — and found these.
4 wallpaper mural designs from Thibaut — vintage 1960s
Elena recently submitted a comment that made me remember I wanted to post about these: Wallpaper murals — 9′ wide for walls up to 10′ tall – made by Thibaut. Can you believe it, but this one above, Memory Lane, was on the wall behind President Lyndon B. Johnson when he addressed the nation on TV for two hours from his Texas ranch house. Hey: That means it was in Lady Bird Johnson’s house — our 4th “First Lady” Retro Renovation connection — can you name the other three so far? Today, we still catch occasional glimpses of wallpaper murals in time capsule houses. They are SO OF THE ERA. You can still get four different designs, in a number of colorways, from Thibaut today. Looks like the retail price is just under $900.
A vintage kitchen sink with one square bowl and one round bowl

Look at this woddity (“wonderful oddity”) from Historic House Parts: A vintage porcelian on steel (I’m guessing) kitchen sink with one square bowl and one round bowl. Ain’t life grand? HHP says this is from “Ebco”… the sink is 38″x20″ overall, with the round bowl somewhat shallower (7.5″ D) than the square. Sounds like there are some little issues, $150. I’m calling this 1970s. Any other guesses — or folks who have spotted this one, still survived in the wild?
Jon & Trixi uncover a 1962 retro kitchen under layers of ugly remodel
I first *met* Jon when he wrote to ask me about removing tile from a laminate countertop. Heck if I knew, but before I could even get around to answering, he emailed me back saying he’d done it already. He and wife Trixi also were onto de-layering the floor. In reality, their renovation so far has meant: Peeling off a circa-2005 update. Oh, and did I mention that Jon is hilarious? And that the pair is admittedly “obsessed”? Read on for more about their wackadoodle adventure to uncover the true blue (avocado green) bones of their 1962 kitchen …
Upload photos of your recent thrifty finds
I am going through some serious withdrawal. There has not been an estate sale for weeks and weeks – not since this 1974 time capsule house in late January. I am forced to hunt and peck and occasionally bite on ebay and etsy, but it is no substitute for serious basement-attic-closet-and-piles-o-digging. Alas, when will my pain end. But perhaps you can cheer me up — by uploading your recent thrifty finds for all to share — vintage: vicarously. Like: Nathan’s Sonneman Orbital lamp found at Goodwill for $25. Oh my!
