My mother says that up until the day before I was born, she and my dad were set to name me Kimberly Jo. That is: Kimmy Jo Kueber (pronounced: kee-burr). Now, I have no problem with the name Kimberly. It is a beautiful name. But the cutie petutie alliteration of Kimmy Jo Kueber would, I fear, have altered my destiny and made me to grow up to be a totally different person. Heck yeah there is more →
Here is a kitchen style that we have not seen featured on the blog before, as I recall. It’s a kitchen with cabinets made from two contrasting colors or designs of laminate. In this case: A starburst white laminate is the “field” color — and yo, a Brady Bunch orange is added to the Revco built-in refrigerator-freezer, wall cabinet doors and as a pop of trim. Over on the Forum, EmbraceEphemeral spotted and posted this vintage sauna for sale. You know — the old fashioned kind where you get locked in like you’re in a refrigerator, but your head is sticking out. It’s on craiglist in Indianapolis, $95. Hilarious! I’ve started to categorize various “wonderful oddities” — “woddities” — that together we have spotted. I have more work to do, going back through my archives, but you can see the growing list of Retro Renovation woddities here.
There is a bunch of NOS Pomona tile on ebay. Each piece is $5 Buy-It-Now, and in some cases there are more than 10 pieces of each design available. I can see using this for decorative embellishment in a kitchen or bathroom — lovely!
So here is a little piece of trim made to fit between the edge of your countertop and the edge of your stove, to prevent all manner of food from dropping down between. Hmmm, a handy dandy that I didn’t even know I needed, but which I am pretty sure would make DH, a neat freak, very happy. I think I will wield my blogger status and call and ask to try it out. The trim is available in white, black, almond or stainless steel from Vance Industries, which we’ve spotlighted for their 18 sizes of hudee rings and their built-in, hudee-ringed trivet/cutting boards. This is one retro-licious company.
Following up on yesterday’s story about where to buy mid century modern style furniture legs, Dave — who is a professional woodworker — made this beautiful George Nelson-style platform bench, also called a slat bench.
