• World of Tile — video interview with co-owner Chippy

Yesterday I rolled out 120 photos and the news that we’ve discovered an amazing time capsule tile story — World of Tile in Springfield, New Jersey. Today, we hear from Chippy (as in “little chip off the old block”), who is a second generation co-owner of the World of Tile and hosted me on my recent visit. She is a delightful person chock full of great information about the history of World Tile and how the came to have this amazing treasure chest of New Old Stock vintage tile from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s ad 1990s.

Great job Pam and Chippy! It puts a song in my heart to hear this story and to know there are wonderful places like this still around.

I want to go to World of Tile SOOOO bad but it is 5 hours from me :(
I do have and original 1959 blue and white bathroom but the floor was redone before I bought the house :( I do neeeeed a new, 1959 blue tile, bathroom floor. :)

Nice video Pam! and thank you, Chippy. Wow, your closing comments actually brought a tear to my eye. Long live the retro renovator/restorers!! I’m on the hunt to discover what the original tile colors were on the walls of my ‘one-of-a-kind’ 1964 ranch in Maine. The older couple who built it have long passed, but I’ve got a few leads on the whereabouts of their children. Wish me luck; can’t wait to share stories and pictures…

    4. Trouble says:

I wonder if maybe…MAYBE they would have the coral colored tile I’m looking for??!?

    5. Cindy says:

If only I had found them before I redid the tiles in my bathroom….if only a million times. Does Chippy have an email? I’d love to send her a picture of my painted backsplash to see if she has anything that could replicate the pattern I used???
      Really great info, Pam.

I’m very excited that this place was discovered. I’ve already gotten a few quotes from Chippy (she’s very nice and quick with the responses) and I’m making plans on ordering some tile from them for my bathroom.

This posting couldn’t of come at a better time for me.

Yay! I want to hear from everyone who gets World of Tile tile — and feature your projects when they are ready for prime time. It will be so fun to follow the trail this story lays out!

    7. CindyD says:

Wow, what a great story. Chippy, your face just lights up when you talk about tiles! I’ll be calling soon…

    8. John says:

      Pam,
This was fantastic timing as we’re getting ready to tear out an 80s bathroom “update” performed on our ’57 MCM. I emailed back-and-forth quite a bit with Chippy and found her very responsive, but suspected we might be able to get through things faster by phone. That definitely seems to be the case-she said several times that she has been absolutely swamped, but is making every effort to respond to everyone the same day and ship as quickly as possible. Samples are hopefully on the way to me and I hope to find something to go with a NOS set of “ming green” sinks and a toilet I’m hoping to score.
Thanks again for the site and for tracking stuff like this down for us!
