Update: It’s Thursday noon, and I have just gone through the comments one more time. Eliminated three more – mine and two repeats (moderation issues). Down to 1,018 and That is It. Getting ready to choose via the Random Number Generator… am doing it in an “audited” way for the record. Update: Congratulations to Tracy — our winner!
I came back late Thursday night from my second media program — for the new HGTV Home Shaw Floors line of carpeting, area rugs, and hardwood and laminate flooring. Then on Sunday, I had to whipsaw it out of here for a week’s vacation with DH. He glared at me bigtime when I said I would keep blogging daily even while on vacation. So I rethunk it and decided: Yes, indeed, he deserves my undivided attention. So we got a housesitter to watch Astro and are headed out. No daily dose for the next week — but guess what? The lovely team at Shaw Floors (the company started in 1946, of course!) capped the launch event by telling all 10 bloggers that we could each give away an area rug to one of our readers. So here’s the perfect chance for me to feature this terrific giveaway! For the next 9 days — while I take my first vacation ever from the blog — this will be my top-of-the-blog story. Here are the rules:
- The prize is an area rug of your choice — any size, even 9 x 12! — from the new HGTV Home Shaw Floors line
- To win, just leave a comment below about why you need a rug and where you would put it
- You can enter each and every day — but only one entry per day — that is: up to nine times starting today and continuing through Tuesday, July 26
- U.S. residents only
- I’ll choose the winner by random number generator on Wednesday morning, July 27.
When I return, I also will write more about the HGTV Home Shaw Floors product line and the super mega fun launch event. Meanwhile, you can take a look at all the new rugs and other floor coverings on the Shaw website. The Mod Links rug (shown above) is my favorite – it comes in a number of colorways. In the design competition that comprised the event, my teammate and I used Mod Links in Beige.
Disclosure: Shaw Floors hosted the media preview and paid for my airfare, hotel and meals. They are providing this rug for a free giveaway. In exchange, they did not prescribe any specific writeups or coverage — all commentary is my own.

Hope I win this rug for my house! We just bought her, she dates to 1960 & needs a rug in her office!
Here’s my last entry. Hope I’m a winner!
There once was a boy from Nantucket
Who needed a Shaw rug more than a bucket
Just moved into my first mid-century gem. The cupboard is bare, but so are the floors. It’s either food or a lovely Shaw carpet to keep our footsies warm. Food? Rug? I’m hungry…please let me win a rug!
OK, fingers crossed! A new rug might even prompt us to finally decide on paint colors for the walls in the living room and dining room! Of course, we’d protect the rug from any paint spills.
I have wood real wood floors that could use a face lift. A beautiful rug could do the trick.
Last chance to win a beautiful new Shaw rug for the bare wood floors in my living room. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed!
last day, mama needs a new rug!
Between a boy, a pup and a kitty, I sure could use a new rug!
Just saw.. 966 comments up there! Wow, popular contest! Here’s my last entry too.. need a new area rug for the new house.. right in front of the fireplace!!

I had a shag rug, but my dogs destroyed it. I’d like to replace it so that my living room doesn’t look so… controlled by dogs…
My DIY area rug in my living/dining room was destroyed by a technician who came to do pest control in my house. I would love to replace it with a Shaw area rug, as I LOVE Shaw carpets and had been looking at them longingly, but they were outside my budget. I would love to win a Shaw area rug. I would be proud to have guests over, as I’d be so proud to show it off.
Oh where is my Shaw Rug?
Oh where is my Shaw Rug?
Oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, Oh Wheeeeere
Is my Shaw Rug?
See there is my Shaw Rug
Near the stair is my Shaw Rug
Take care, don’t dare, no fair, don’t put pet hair….
On my Shaw Rug
We rent and unfortunately the carpets are atrocious! I’d love a beautiful new Shaw rug to be able to take with us when we move in the future.
Wish I was creative enough to write a little poem. Oh well, still pining for a new living room rug
A new Shaw rug would be real nice
Especially at this low, low price
It would be free if I should win
And if I did I sure would grin!
Good luck everyone that entered!
Wow, almost a thousand posts! Well, I guess I don’t stand a very good chance, but I’m still hope for a new lovely rug.
Thanks Pam!
If I don’t win this rug, I don’t know what I might do!
We would be thrilled to have a soft landing place for our baby in the dining room or master bedroom. Thanks for the opportunity!
As I’m pulling up my carpeting to expose my 50′s era hardwood floors, such a rug would really make my vintage Lane dining set really pop!
Please pick me! I need it terribly!!!!
Hi! I would love to win a new Shaw rug!! I need one very badly in my living room. I bought two standard poodle puppies last January and now my cream shag rug that I have in my living room is missing about 100 loops and has some questionable color spots! : ) A new, free rug would be a blessing!
I recently purchased a 1959 raised ranch and we are in the process of decorating it with period furnishings, however, we are having a really hard time finding area rugs that compliment the decor. The area rugs shown on the website would be perfect to complete the final touches !
Fifty seven home
Walls painted, rooms furnished
Floors need a rug hug.
I need a rug in my bedroom because there is burgundy carpeting in my bedroom that I cannot pull out and I keep tripping over all of my black shoes!
icky nasty carpet in the master bedroom needs to go!!! Let the decorating gods smile on me
My kids have ruined the rug! Our 1957 den was just brought to the 21st century only three short years ago and the rug is totally kid-ified-juice box, grass and mud stained. I will gladly send a before and after photo of the transformation of what was a gold and brown plaid rug den heaven, complete with burlap wallpaper, to a semi-modern wonder that honors the bones of the beloved split level home.
In other words, pick me, pick me.
Love the website. Long live the split!
Back’s killin’ me from the wreck STOP
Seeing a chiropractor STOP
Need rug so not lying directly on hardwood STOP
Please help! STOP
My living room echoes.
There once was a FABULOUS rug made by Shaw
Placed in entry of ranch home everyone saw.
Asked where I bought it, I said it was free
I won Pam’s contest. She’s such a sweetie!
My last entry. I hope my laziness over the weekend didn’t cost me. This has been really fun, and I hope I win. But either way, I’m just looking forward to having new posts to read. I’m going through withdrawal!
Hope it was a restful and fun vacation.
One more day to try to win a new rug for my dining room. Covering the newly refinished hardwood floors with rugs to protect them is almost as expensive as having the floors done! One for the dining room to keep my dog from sliding on the floors would be great!
Still hoping to win that fabulous Shaw rug for my living room!
I need a new rug for the living room, the current one is brown. As are both sofas :/ Something with aqua would be awesome!
We’re moving into a condo in an old brownstone in Boston. After all the costs of closing the sale and moving, our decorating budget is now severely constrained. Having this carpet for our living room would make our new home a even more happy place.
Would love this rug, it’s gorgeous!
Love the dark ModLinks. It would look great in our living room that has been rug less due to an elderly dog (now passed), and babies. We’re just starting to think about rugs again.
Still hoping for a new rug! Daily entry.
Monday entry! Still would love to win a new rug for my basement, bedroom, dining room or hallway!! .. Wait, it’s Tuesday, shish. Yeah, it’s already that kind of week – SLOW.
If I win this contest, it is my solemn vow not to pick out something greige for my living room, which could use more than a little pizzazz . . . .
I’m decorating a 1961 mid-century modern home….and that brown rug would look sooooo perfect in my living room!
After 2 years of renovation i am finally ready to put a few touches of carpet in my “NEW” 1950 modern split . Betty (the previous owner) lived ( and smoked) in this house for 40 years…… She loved it, and its my turn. Betty passed at 86, bless her, and the family left everything in the house…..52 pairs of size 7 tennies!, clothing, linens and towels! Carpets with burn holes and many smoke detectors and extinguishers!!! But, every piece of fabric, including carpet, draperies, furniture was brown ( from smoke). It all had to go……….i saw the potential. My little gem is coming along beautifully!! A true labor of love……….
love your site. good luck all
My last chance to win a rug for my living room!!
A rug would be grand for my new buffed concrete floors!! Keeping my fingers crossed that the random number generator fairy finds me!
I just had a flood so I need a rug without mud. Please enter me
Getting in my last entry for the rug contest!!
Last entry for the rug contest- fingers crossed!!!
still hoping for that rug! how will you choose, a drawing?
I need to the rug because today I ripped up my old carpet in my bedroom to the original wood floors of the house which are beautiful but I need a rug to ground the space and I need it on a budget!
Would love for my “after” den renovation photos to show a fantastically stylish rug that pulls the whole room together.
