Okay, I am crazy overloaded what with all the activity in the house. So here is an easy, fun, mid-day story. I get lots of emails from readers suggesting I talk about this old movie or that old movie with great interiors. One day I will start a series. But meanwhile, no one has ever sent me this suggestion. I watched this movie — my late night in the man cave screen shot above — over the weekend. Absolutely hilarious. And fabulous 1970s interiors and costumes. Can I stump you? Surely not. Who can guess?

Wouldn’t have recognized from the shot, but Dick WAS a really cute movie.
We love, love all the interiors in old movies. Was watching a really crummy 30’s soapy drama this week and stayed with it only to see all the furnishings.
The ULTIMATE movie on the wallpaper thing is one of my all time favorite weepy chick flicks…..The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, made in France in the 60s with the gorgeous Catherine Denueve. The wallpaper in that film is outrageous, and gives loads of mood and foreshadowing. The clothes, the sets and the music are quintessential early 60’s. Sigh.

I also loved the interiors in Super 8, only slightly less than the sheriff, LOL!!!

Yup! As in Richard Nixon.

I love looking at the sets of old movies. I recently went through every episode of Rod Serling’s Night Gallery, made in the early 70’s. Every episode has one or two completely new sets to go with the different stories, all classic 1970’s decor.

I don’t. Our 1960s house was apparently covered in it, every floor, ceiling, closet… and it’s been painted over. And over. With nothing left to show for it except lines on our walls and ceilings.

I love watching movies just for their sets, lush landscapes and cinematography (had to look up the spelling on that one!). One of my favorite ‘set’ movies to watch is Flawless with Micheal Kane and Demi Moore. It’s set in 1960 and the wood panelling and furniture are to die for! Can you imagine a whole conference room FULL of Eames loungers?!?

I can’t believe I’ve never seen it. I looked it up and it was made in 1999. It needs to go on my list!

Recently watched Super 8, a so-so movie, but Cane and I loved the interiors! We weren’t gripped by the action, but we kept saying things like: “Look at those lamps!” “What a cool neighborhood of split-levels!” And our kids said things like: “You two are such geeks!” and “Shhhh!”
Just have to tell you, we finally found our 3rd 70s light fixture, to replace the last of the 90s brass/glass! Haven’t posted any pics yet, but will next week. This one set us back a bit: a whole $25. So glad the 70s haven’t gotten too hot yet 🙂
