Orders more than double for the company’s
mid century inspired sofa and chair designs.
Plus: 39 photos of the new Avenue 62 line
straight from this week’s High Point Fall Furniture Market
We’ve been bringing you coverage of the new Avenue 62 line from Younger Furniture as first, the design sketches and then, the beauty shots, became available — and, now — you can see all the photos of the Avenue 62 line in the Younger Furniture showroom straight from the big Fall Furniture Market currently under way this week at the High Point Furniture Market. This line has been exciting ever our first feature, but seeing the mid century modern design sofas and chairs upholstered and ready to sit on — wow. Even more exciting is the use of color in this line — like the orange sofa above. I’ve always waaaaanted an orange sofa…
Younger Furniture spotlighted by U.S. Senator Kay Hagan for Made in the USA
At the recent unveiling at the big High Point fall market, U.S. Senator Kay Hagan made a special stop at the Younger showroom to congratulate the company on its continuing growth and to underscore their Made In America product line. In a follow up interview with North Carolina Public Radio, Meredith explained that Made in America provenance has become increasingly important in the furniture industry:
This trend started probably a few years ago… the first question out of people’s mouths is “where is this furniture made.” Whereas before, it might not have been in their top five or ten questions.
Meredith told us here at Retro Renovation that design of the line also received excellent feedback — and orders — at the make-it-or-break-it High Point Furniture Market, where thousands of furniture wholesalers and retailers gather twice each year to buy-and-sell what we’ll be seeing soon in our local stores. Meredith reported on sales so far (the show continues through Friday):
We have gotten an amazing reaction at the show! We have had our best market ever by far. Attendance and order writing are up more than double. We have had many customers in that have never been in before just to see the new collection. People are really liking the style and the colors. We have had many customers say they like the mid century vibe and feel but they also like that the lines are clean, fresh and contemporary. It’s great for me to hear this because its exactly what I was going for! So happy that people “get it”!
This line has both crisp neutral fabric options as well as bold brights and funky patterns.
The scale of this line doesn’t seem to be too huge — which makes it perfect for the long and low aesthetic of mid century modern and mid century modest ranch homes.
The Avenue 62 line has a good mix of modern, contemporary and mid century/retro design. Add to that the varied choices of upholstery fabric and it’s easy to see why there has been such a good response — it has a little something for everyone at good price points: In this previous story (see Comments), Meredith said, ” Prices for sofas will range from about $1299-1799… depending on fabric choice.”
The nubby looking orangey red fabric on the chair above looks awesome with its dark walnut legs.
The chair above — especially in this fabric — looks traditional yet also retro. It looks like the kind of chair you would find next to the fireplace and cozy up in it to read and sip hot cocoa. With some knotty pine nearby, perhaps?
There’s that drool worthy yellow chair again. This particular chair would look great in orange or teal too. Congrats to Younger Furniture — this new line has turned out wonderfully. You’ve accomplished exactly what you set out to do — create a lovely line of furniture that feels modern and fresh but pays its respects to its retro roots.

That’s great to hear Meredith. I think your company will have a lot of success with this line (sounds like you already are!). I don’t doubt you’ll get your furniture to the west coast eventually. This style is very popular here and there are a lot of great MCM homes to put it in! Thanks for responding!

Meredith, thank you so much for chiming in. It is wonderful to know that we are getting honest, correct information directly from the source. Please flaunt your “made in the USA” mantra. Perhaps it will inspire other manufatures to know it CAN be done, and done well.
I do hope that just maybe there was some interest from some downstate Illinois companies. I know I can get ME up to Chicago, but will I be able to get the furniture DOWN here!

I have to catch my breath – my Corona is still going – but these are so nice! Both of those blue chairs – the plain with black arms or the armless tufted with spotted (Nick at nite logo?) fabric are ridiculous and need to be in my breezeway when I get home tonight.
The sort of flower pattern tufted chair with black legs reminds me shape wise of my chairs from Lazar – which are out of this world.

Way to go, Senator Kay! I hope this line sells like hotcakes and inspires more MCM-style design. Love the coffee table in the first photo: nice nod to Noguchi.

Not only is the furniture fabulous (and affordable!), but I’m loving the area rugs. Do you have any information about them?
Meredith Younger Spell1 says
Thank you so much! And the area rugs were all borrowed from a great company called “MAT the basics” http://www.matthebasics.com/

OMG! We have died and gone to furniture heaven! I’m guessing furniture heaven is expensive, but it is a nice dream.
Betty says
My sofa was less than $1000. Very reasonable.

The orange sofa is currently available (and probably the others, too). I have the same sofa in a light brown/wheat and LOVE it. I think the name of it is Michael now. When I purchased it about this time last year as a floor model it was called Retro.
