We’ve featured a lot of mid century homes here on the blog — but this might be a first — Facebook follower Elise spotted this 1958 Victor mid century era mobile home for sale in Wichita, Kansas. If the snazzy chrome and aqua accents on the outside don’t get you excited, wait until you see some of the retro detailing on the inside.
The home’s interior is outfitted with some cool retro built in shelving, wood kitchen cabinets and paneled ceiling, a trio of mid century pendant lights and a cool starburst clock.
Looks like there are some original pinch pleat drapes covering the windows in there too.
From the listing on Craigslist:
This is a vintage 1958 Victor mobile home in Uptown Park, Nickerson. The home has been incredibly maintained and has very little damage. The exterior has been repainted to factory colors, the interior has many of the original appliances and features still in great condition. The home is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath, with a smaller area that can be used as a second sleeping area. It is a unique and vintage home that is still very liveable and it’s in a cozy and affordable park with only $120 lot rent. Financing is available on this home.
This mobile home is proof that mid century style isn’t limited to homes with brick and mortar foundations. A huge thanks goes out to Craigslist seller Eric for allowing us to share his photos here on the blog and to Facebook follower Elise for spotting this mid century marvel.

In the early ’80s I lived in a one bedroom trailer from the ’60s that was an A-frame. Completely paneled with some groovy orange shag carpet. LOVED that little place.

Looks like it has a pink bathroom, too, judging from the photos on the realtor’s site. What a neat find! I love it. All it needs is a couple of pink flamingos in the yard. 😀

Yay! I’ve been waiting for a post about mobile homes. The stigma attached to them nowadays didn’t exist in the 40s-60s when they were seen as an affordable and trully mobile way to live.
There’s a mini trailer here that makes me smile every time I see it. It’s probably 1/3 the length of the one shown above (15 ft. long?). It’s pink with cute little porthole windows. At some point, someone connected a second little trailer to it, so it’s a mini double wide.

As you say, in the 50s, mobile homes were new and exciting. In Travels with Charley(1962) John Steinbeck interviewed a young couple enjoying the new mobile lifestyle. He described their home with its built in furnishings for comfort and convenience and how it could be moved from one location to another whenever the man got a new job, ending with the verbal image of the young wife looking contentedly around her neat, compact home

I pass a lot of retro trailers around here in Florida and always love that “fin” styled look. I have no idea what the insides hold but I will imagine it is cool like this!

Now THIS makes me want to live in a mobile home. $4900 and $120/month lot rent? Wow! Okay, I guess I’d want to get this mobile home out of tornado alley, though.

I live in Wichita and have a full brick house with no basement. That’s risky enough. As much as I love this, I would have to also move it to a state without tornados as a normal spring and summertime occurrence. The standard line in Kansas is “mobile homes are a tornado magnet”

Just moments before view the Facebook post, I was looking at THIS picture; http://3.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kveoupbpTC1qanaqoo1_500.jpg
Mobile home, same clock, pendant lights and similar layout. Nice bit of synchronicity!

I’m the proud owner of a 1958 Universal Terra-Cruiser park-model single-wide trailer with its original birch paneling, built-in shelves, and pink tub/toilet/sinks/stove. It’s our little Love Shack in the pines of Prescott, AZ. You can see pics on Facebook, just search “The Love Shack Prescott”.
