This Mid-Century Modern home brings a classic style that intrigues today’s modish buyer. Roof lines, retro details, angular walls & ceilings along with dramatic floor to ceiling windows are the epitome of mid-century design. Architect Julian A. Altobellis designed, the home incorporates not only the architecture of the era, but also building standards rarely found. Solid steel & concrete construction provides strength that will last for generations to come. Other features include rear/side alley access, original hardwood floors that have been covered with carpet since new, marble flooring in the foyer & formal dining room and tile in the kitchen. Located in the sought after Forest Hills/Oleander area, the home is situated on a .68 acre parcel. The neighborhood has a quiet setting & offers a flair of yesteryear with its tree lined streetscape and sidewalks. In just minutes, enjoy the rich culture of Historic Downtown with many fine dining restaurants, nightlife, arts & entertainment.
The home has some lovely colorful vintage bathrooms, like this charming mint green with dark green bullnose combination. And wow — the mud-set tile: That stuff is built to last!
This peachy-beige bathroom has some fantastic vintage seashell wallpaper — and the sink is super cool.
And then there is this oh-so-adorable pink and white striped tile bathroom with cheery floral vintage wallpaper — and on the ceilings, too! I can’t remember ever seeing a striped tile bathroom quite like this before. So cute.
Look at this cool kitchen — complete with vintage appliances and hudee rimmed sink. Oh, look at the electric range top burners all three-in-a-row! The color of these cabinets: Classic and timeless.
The angle of the cabinets certainly adds to the mid century modern appeal of the space.
I have a screened porch at my retro ranch and can attest to how great they are to have during a buggy but nice sumer evening, my porch is nowhere as big as this fantastic screen porch. And the design of these screens — and how they are angled up the roof line: Wow.

I want the minty green bath, the screened in porch and the entrance hall. I don’t have any of those. Nice kitchen. I think this is the first time I have seen six electric burners (Mid century built-in).
By the way, my slides are shown verically and don’t click on as a slide show.

I just got back from Wilmington 2 days ago. My dad lives in a ca 1973 rancher near Carolina Beach (about 10 miles from this property.) I’m so sorry I missed this house! If I’d only known.
Incidentally, the humidity, combined with the Spring through Fall heat in the area is like a sauna – not for asthmatics or other COPD folks!

What a cool house! Modern houses make my heart go pitty-pat 😉 I love the kitchen and that screened-in porch is fabulous. The bathrooms are great, too, especially the striped one.

I have never seen three burner sets in a row. Very interesting house.
Looks like it is in great shape for the age of the house. Hope someone buys it and just polishes it a bit, and doesn’t remodel.

Absolutely beautiful. That screened porch is my favorite part.

This is a great MCM home that would be relatively large for the time. I love the classic Dixie Cup holder in the pink striped bathroom! They were popular in the 60’s and the cup holder itself was just held by its own weight on the mounting bracket. You could take it right off to reload it. Very vintage MCM!

Wow, Kate, what a fine house! Hope it gets a buyer who is already on RetroRenovation and is willing to be “curator” of it. (If it were mine, my first task would be to hunt for a mint green toilet to match that bathroom. It looks like a white one has been installed as replacement.) I’m curious about the cement construction–is there any siding, other than brick facing? Or is it painted cement? Don’t love the wallpaper, but I’ll bet Pam does!
