Remember Nanette and Jim’s wonderful blue bathroom remodel that ended up winning our 2013 The Hard Way Award – Bathroom Category? The couple has been at it again — this time transforming their main floor bathroom into a Mamie pink potty paradise. While we wait patiently for Nanette and Jim to put the finishing touches on the space, Pam and I decided we couldn’t possibly keep it to ourselves and decided to pass along our sneak peek.
We’ve been at it again!! After we finished our blue bathroom (winner of the The hard way, thank you!!), we completely gutted our upstairs bathroom and returned it to pink. (We could see pink paint coming through underneath a really terrible Home Depot remodel that was falling apart.) We just put up the vintage wallpaper this past weekend, and it’s looking so good. Everything in this room is absolutely new to the room (vintage: Crane sink, pink toilet, lights and NOS shower handles).
We are nearly done, not quite ready for a final debut but wanted to let you know it will be done soon. Still need to finish a shelf and “stage it.” Jim also wants me to paint a swan design on the glass shower doors, I’m thinking a frosted glass swan detail would be better.
We’ll include the full list of sources used when we run the “finished” story. Meanwhile, we couldn’t wait to ask Nanette about that yummy floor. What is it? She replied:
The floor is inlaid Marmoleum. I have a friend who does floors and specializes in Marmo, and he gave me a killer deal on this job, it was a bit arduous to install. I was able to watch them install it and it was like cutting a dress out of fabric from a pattern with inlaid details. They made a pattern with lots of notes. I purchased and picked up the marmo, we prep’d the floor but they installed it.
Will keep you posted on the glass project and let you know when it’s done, we love it too. We had a vintage themed cocktail party this weekend and on a tour someone said “at least they didn’t gut the pink bathroom”, this made our day, all new but fooled a vintage aficionado upon first observation!
I think I speak for everyone here when I say, “We love your bathroom!” We can’t wait to see the final, finished room and hear about all the trials and tribulations you faced during this remodel. Plus — how cool is it to have someone think your newly remodeled pink bathroom is original to the house? Great work, Nanette and Jim!

I’m a Realtor in suburban Detroit. We call it, “The D”, I was working with a single guy in his mid 40’s. He wanted to buy a home that needed to be updated. He did not call what he was looking for Mid-century. But, that is where his taste took us. When we found the house that he ultimately purchased, it had a very pink bathroom. It was gorgeous and glamorous. But, needed some help. Of course, just like on the TV shows, he said “THAT has to go”. When he started doing research for his various projects, he came across Pam’s web site and another one “Save The Pink Bathrooms”. You all probably are very familiar with that one. He sent both to me. I’ve been addicted ever since and he SAVED HIS PINK BATHROOM.
Happy Ending 🙂

Nanette and Jim…Your bathroom is to die for! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! You created a masterpiece! Can’t wait to see a full on picture of it. I have a pink tiled bathroom that I have told my husband on more than one occasion, “we are NOT changing!” It is in mint condition in our 1950 house. We also have a sky blue bathroom in mint condition that is to remain untouched as well. It is so refreshing to see people such as yourselves hang on to and even enhance their great pink bathrooms when I see all of these renovation show with pink bathrooms and hear prospective buyers say, “That’s a gut.”

That Crane sink is to die for. Love the whole bathroom and the floor is just perfect.

Love it, LOVE it, LOVE IT!
Especially the unusually shaped sink and toilet — very unique and very period! What a wonderful job you did! Congratulations, and I hope you enjoy it for a long time!

Oh Wow. Well done. I’m speechless. Do I see Rejuvenation pulls? I wish my partner would agree to a pink bathroom (sigh). I will just have to content myself with swooning over this one, and Kate’s too.

Hands down best from-scratch pink bathroom! Kudos.

Very nice job, its hard to pick out favorite things but that Crane sink is killer. And I learned a few things too, I had no idea there was such a thing as Supersize Honeycomb tiles (pink no less!) and Marmoleum is something I need to find out more about too.

I know from the fabulous blue bathroom story that I live in the same city as Nanette and Jim. I need to meet their friend who does the linoleum inlay! That’s a lost art that really needs to be revived. Another incredible job, you two are such an inspiration to me!

Perfection!

You kids rocked it, on this bathroom.
Flawless.
Go with the frosted swan motif and find yourself a set of nice little Turners and hang them in a stack formation and you have perfection.
Nanette says
Ah thanks Bea! Just so happens I’m on the hunt for Turners for this one, the blue bath has several I happened upon. Just haven’t found the right ones yet for the pink bath. (I love the hunt though and am fortunate to have lots of places locally to hunt vintage things like those down at).
