Too much fun, we almost missed it: October 26 is our birthday — RetroRenovation.com has turned eight. In addition to shaking up a Shark Bite, we want to celebrate by asking all our dear readers:
- What would you like to see more of on the blog?
- What burning questions do you have that we might be able to get all Brenda Starr about?
- Any other suggestions… comments… encouragement?
Proceed to the comments section, then go find a cake, cookie or cuppa and join us in a toast to more fantastic years ahead!

Congratulations!
I love all things Mid Century and, living in Australia, drool over all the awesome things that are available in the U.S. but alas, not available here. I’m not sure if you come across companies/ sources/people over in the Southern Hemisphere but if you do, it would be great to find out more about them.
Thanks for an excellent site. Here’s to many more. ????

I do love the blog and all the great resources it has. You’ve had some great articles and I really appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into everything. I really do love seeing the time capsule houses!
One of the things I’d like to see are a few articles that might blend more MC-modern styles/features into MC-modest homes. I have a large (1500sqft) 1962 bungalow which is more MC-modest in shape than a MC-modern home but I’d like to bring in more MC-modern features/materials etc. If I had any of the original bathrooms or kitchens I’d just redo those but my house got a bad upgrade in the 1980’s and those features are gone.
I enjoyed seeing the pink bathroom run of posts where you chose different paints or different tile combinations. It would be nice to see a version that was more MCM in style for those of use who are putting in new bathrooms but don’t necessarily love the pink bathrooms (I would never rip one out if I had one though!).
Maybe a comparison of a space (kitchen, bathroom, living room etc) showing both MC-modest version and then a MC-modern take? I don’t want to take a way from the “every man” house style RR goes for but it’d be nice to see a comparison sometimes!
Feel free to ignore my suggestions though since you’ve been doing such a great job!

Congrats and THANK YOU! I have really enjoyed every moment spent on this site!
Selfishly, I’d love to see more articles about homes from the 30s and 40s. I love your features using advertisements and catalogs from the era being discussed. They give me such great ideas!
Thanks again!

Congratulations, Pam & Kate! Thanks for 8 great years – and hopefully many more to come. I’d love to see more follow-ups to the ‘design dilemmas’, to see where readers went with your suggestions.

Happy Happy Birthday Retro Renovation (Pam, and Kate)! Retro Renovation will continue to be the best for years to come! I am nuts for 70s decor too, but also love the pre-40s, 40s, 50s, and 60s too!
Keep up the super phenomenal work ladies! You both deserve awards for your extremely hard work!

Like other commenters, I found your website when I was doing a search regarding decorating dilemmas in my 1950s ranch. That was via the “Save the Pink Bathroom” page. That was four years ago, and I have been a fan ever since. Your site is useful as well as fun, and I love the friendliness and helpfulness of the other readers. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday! I haven’t been with you since the beginning, but I’m certainly glad I found you.
I do love the uploader. I’m sure it’s a lot of work, but I just love seeing what other people have been able to find and how they put it together.
Cheers to many more years of Retro awesomeness.

Happy Birthday!
I know that this isn’t a 70’s centric site but I can never get enough of the 70’s. From the bad to the good I like it all. My 70’s taste tends to be more Brady Bunch; i.e., I tend to like a lot of the 70’s stuff/ decor that a lot of others don’t, so I understand that my tastes are a bit, well, on the tacky side, but I love of the 70’s things that made the 70’s notorious. Yes, I love avocado, golden harvest, etc.. So, more 70’s please. Yeah, I know, I’m in the minority here but hey, you asked so I’m chiming in.
However, I love the 50’s and 60’s stuff too.
Keep up the good work! 🙂

I am insane over the 70s, too!
Maybe one thing we can consider is tagging stories into their decades… with 3,000+ stories on the blog, that would be a lot of work.
Meanwhile, be sure, everyone who is reading this, to use that Search box — type in any old word related to what you are looking for… the Search box works pretty well!
Thanks, Ethan!

Won’t be long until the entire twentieth century falls under the “retro” tag. Might be a good idea to squirrel away a few ’90s time capsule features, for publication when tastes dictate. Or maybe just some “archival file footage”.
Anyway, congratulations on eight years!

tee hee, you reminded me of this story, where we captured all the design trends of the 90s, alas the Portlandia video is kerput: https://retrorenovation.com/2011/02/02/what-were-the-biggest-design-trends-of-the-1990s/
