Thanks to a tip from reader Nancy, we discovered that the company that makes Pyrex — which recently celebrated their 100th anniversary with a special collection — has released yet another vintage revival collection. Vintage Charm™ Inspired by Pyrex® — is a new brand and features sets of three decorative, nesting prep and serving bowls — each inspired by the Popular Patterns of Pyrex® Opal Glass from the 50’s and 60’s. Super cute!
Note these aren’t for use in ovens. The company news release says: “All bowls are dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe for ease and convenience while entertaining” — and the company confirmed via email:
“To confirm, these bowls are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe but should not be used in the oven.”

Everyone, I am starting to un-approve/hold back comments giving advice on old vs new Pyrex.
PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH regarding the old vs. the new and how any particular piece is specified in terms of usage. I am not an expert on this topic.
These bowls, as the company has made clear, are not meant for the oven.

Very cute. Now if we could just convince World Kitchen, which also owns Revere Ware, to go back to the original pre-1967 specs for that cookware with the thicker gauge steel, thicker copper bottoms and Bakelite handles. Pam, any way you can talk to someone over there?
pam kueber says
I’m exhausted after the Wilsonart collaboration!
Buy vintage!

Note, those of you subscribed to this comment thread:
This is a new brand “Inspired by Pyrex” and not Pyrex per se.
In response to reader questions coming in, we asked and the company confirmed that these Vintage Charm bowl sets:
…”are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe but should not be used in the oven.”
Other questions that have come up: The company confirmed they are imported from China. And as far as I can tell from reading the specs on the World Kitchen site, they are glass [not plastic, as some readers suggested.]. All that said, jump over to the World Kitchen site to read the specs yourself and of course, check whatever cookware you buy for usage instructions/limitations.
Mary Elizabeth says
“Imported from China.” Aack!
Jay says
Made in China!! That should settle it for everyone once and for all. It’s just designer duds for those who are of the disposable nature and want something new for their kitchen every year. Sorry to see the use of beloved Pyrex patterns for glassware of questionable quality.

I have found them in our Kroger grocery stores (midwest). I’ve even seen them on clearance in one of the stores. Being a Pyrex collector, when I heard of them the bowls, I was excited to see the product. I was disappointed. They appear to be cheaper in feel and look overall compared to the original. I couldn’t bring myself to purchase any, even on clearance. It might be kitchsy to some, but not me.
Has anyone seen the glass pyrex 4 cup storage containers with lids- that came out for Pyrex’s 100th in the dot pattern- are now out with the musical staff pattern in various colors?

I saw Vintage Charm in Tickled Pink before Christmas at our local version of Kroger (Fred Meyer). Guess I am going to have to widen my horizons!
Fred says
I give them an “A” for effort, but nothing will ever come close to being the real thing. There’s still quite an abundance of the real thing out there.
IMO, they seem kind of late to be jumping on the “retro” bandwagon, but again, A for effort. I’m disappointed to read that these are not oven safe! (Isn’t that Pyrex’s “thing”?)
I’ll still be curious to see them in person. Thanks for the story!
Kay says
World Kitchen bought Pyrex and stopped making the quality product we all grew up with. The name is the same, the quality is gone.
These bowls are just decorative, which is fine, as long as you know what you are getting. They can not go in the oven, they are not the sturdy laboratory glass our mothers used and loved.
missbike says
Real Pyrex isn’t available in the USA anymore. Unless you go thrift. But it is sold in Europe. Since it’s a kitchen workhorse, at least that’s a possible source. Look up Pyrex on Wikipedia for all the dirt.

I bought the Pyrex 100 year measuring cups. In just a few short months all the ink began washing off the glass in the dishwasher. Not much good now. Hope they can do a better job with these because I like the way they look.
Stephanie says
I bought the measuring cups at Costco and the blue ink has worn off, but red hasn’t.
Stephanie says
I wondered if it was the super powerful Cascade gel packs I’ve been using because they scour all my dishes clean including tea and coffee stains.
BeckyKay says
I want them all!! (except maybe the Golden Charm ones. Never been a fan of that pattern.) These are just incredible!
Yaya says
Anyone know if they are available in Canada?
pam kueber says
I don’t know, Yaya. I gave Kate the day off (we are still recovering from Las Vegas), tomorrow when she is back I will ask her to ask our contact. We’ll post the response here.
belinda says
I found them in Canada and I was so excited but I did not buy them . . . because the quality was not what I had expected. The glass had a kind of dull feel if that makes any sense. They were tempting though – for sure! At my store in Western Canada they were $49.99 for the set with the lids.
Karin says
Hi,
Oh happy day! I’m chuffed that they’re available in Canada, but I’m in Toronto, which is (as you probably know) in the middle part of Canada. What store did you say had them? Unfortunately, Target pulled out of here. This definitely necessitates an immediate and frantic online search, lol.
belinda says
they were in a local grocery store – not sure if you have it out there. Save – on or Save – on – Foods. We have several of these stores and I only saw them in one store.
Jen says
I’m sad they didn’t bring back Spring Blossom Green (my pattern) although my brother collects the Butterfly Gold, so he might get those for his birthday! I’ve heard though that the new opal pyrex isnt really the same as the old stuff… That its thinner and less durable. Can anyone confirm?
pam kueber says
Regarding manufacturings specs, best to check with the manufacturer.
Lynn says
Spring Blossom Green is my pattern too! I am surprised they didn’t choose that one instead. I thought it was more popular. I also have dishes in Snowflake Blue and Butterfly Gold too. I love the original Corelles!
