50s living room: Vintage Kroehler fabric samples to simply adore

Aren’t these samples of vintage Kroehler nylon upholstery fabrics the greatest? Lots of good ideas here, regarding both design and colors to look to replicate. These are all currently listed on ebay.

Palm Springs Stephan recommends this Heywood Wakefield merchant — today’s ebay pick

Palm Springs Stephan provides our ebay pick of the day. Table and chairs listed separately:

I saw this on eBay today while searching for Heywood Wakefield desks and nightstands. The seller — JWB213 — is a very active HW dealer. I have bought several pieces from him. He is EXCELLENT to deal with! Packs [...]

Magbot shows us her awesome all-formica dinette

Magbot writes:
Pam, I’ve been following your saga since you first found your kitchen cabinets (can’t recall how I found out, probably mentioned in some other design blog), and swooning over your gorgeous reno. I fervently hope to someday redo a mid-C ranch as impeccably as you have.
My question: I’ve owned several of the [...]

Vintage sofas, long and low - today’s ebay picks

Oh it’s so fun to look at the long and low sofas (and sometimes matching chairs) on ebay. Here are one and two currently online. both with original upholstery and matching chairs. The first one could be as late as the 70s or even GASP 80s, but it’s still awesome!

50s sofa from reader Ronn’s shop — today’s online pick courtesy Femme1

Femme 1 sends us our item of the day - coincidentally, from reader Ronn Ives’ shop, Futures Antiques. Femme1 says:
I’ve just been looking online at some of the older furniture sites I used to check. You might like this sofa. This is a great site–Futures– and the guy who runs it has been around a [...]

Retro office desks from Hon

The “girls” in the typing pool on Mad Men sure look to be typing away on Hon desks. This longtime company, which services mostly offices, has great retro styled desks. Unfortunately, they also had a bona fide ‘tanker’ desk, which they discontinued last year.
You can look for these desks at your local office furniture store [...]

Sofas and chairs — available today from Lee — are great fits for traditional-retro styled living rooms

It’s nice to see that furniture manufacturers are bringing back sofas and chairs that have more traditional scale and lines like those in the 1954 Simmons ad above and in the thumbnail.
By scale, I mean, not over-sized, like most of the sofas on the market today that are made for new construction home interiors. Today’s [...]

Vintage coppertone cabinet pulls for Julie, along with clues to her Heywood Wakefield-esque built-ins

Julie from Seattle recently sent a photo (immediately above) of the original built-in from her new home in Seattle, and asked for some help with a couple of issues. Here’s what she had to say:
Hi, Pam. I love your blog. We just moved into a 1950’s ranch in Seattle and have this amazing huge built-in [...]

50s style dogbone sofa and chair, Palm Springs Stephan has reproductions from this maker - today’s ebay pick

Beautiful sofa and chair! These are new. But our good friend Palm Springs Stephan says that he bought his reproduction set from this furniture-maker upholsterer in metro Los Angeles - and that they are great pieces.
“He is located in a little shop down in Hollywood, and he specializes in reproduction mid century modern upholstered [...]

Tiki or Mambo? Groovy retro bar sets - you choose

I love these two little bar sets from Krypton Furniture. Pair them with the right wallpaper (I need to hunt…) and pina coladas, or Tom Collins’ — and the party’s on.
Their price tag is high at $925. If you don’t care to swing that - note the look, and watch for something along [...]
