Retro lighting: Square recessed can lights - reproductions

The recessed lights throughout my 1951 colonial-traditional ranch are all in square housings. I also have two recessed lights on the stairs to the basement that are longer rectangles. From my trips to estate sales, I think that square lighting was much more common than round cans in the postwar era, although round was used.

I [...]

Vintage teacups - reborn

The lovely, charming and talented Jenn Ski spotted these. Vintage teacups - including quite everyday ones (is that Corell?) from 50s 60s and 70s - repurposed as little pendant lights. Grouped together - fabulous!

Retro lighting - Love the look

I just added these vintage lights to Last Day ebay. Love the look so much - have to show them large!

Colonial-modern retractable 50s kitchen light - today’s ebay pick

I know that a number of readers are on the watch for retractable kitchen lights. So they’ve probably already seen this one listed on ebay.
Design tip: The point I want to make about this, though, is one I often make: That while many of us may be looking for “modern” accessories rather than “colonial” [...]

Classic retro bathroom fixtures from Home Depot - Sara finds this deal

Sarakay has found what look to be very affordable and totally retro bathroom lights, at Home Depot. There is a four-bulb version (above), a two-bulber, and possibly even a single-bulb sconce that might be workable. You can only buy them at the store, although you can see them online (although they are well hidden, so [...]

Wowwee! An incredible retractable kitchen light - today’s ebay pick

Oh my goodness, this vintage kitchen ceiling fixture is so Jane Jetson, my head is spinning. The retractable ceiling light fixture in my kitchen is from the same company, I think — the pointy switch to turn it on (three-way control) is identical.
Guys, it just doesn’t get any better than this.

Retro lighting: A great ceiling fixture from Liz’s Antique Hardware

I received a catalog from LAH today and spotted this reproduction ceiling fixture right away. I love that it has pin-dots in both the glass shade facing bottom, and on the aluminum housing itself. A great kitchen or mudroom fixture!

60s style exterior lighting from Hanover

I love the products from Hanover Lighting — the company just seems very down to earth … high quality … decent prices … lots of selection … lots of finishes … lots of sizes to scale to your home … all, without foofy over-top-marketing that means you end up paying too much.

It’s too cold in [...]

50s and 60s lighting from today’s Remcraft - reader Brian sends this retailer our way

Brian, a new reader, emailed about a great company — Remcraft — that produces 50s and 60s style lighting — much of it near-exact replica’s of their vintage styles. (See them in the 1953 pink Formica kitchen we looked at just a few weeks ago.) Remcraft is a client of Brian’s, he is a [...]

Exterior lighting for your postwar ranch, colonial or Cape house — from Hanover Lantern

Adding the right exterior lighting to your 40s 50s or 60s ranch, Cape or colonial can make all the difference in the world — like the perfect jewelry on a little black dress. I’ve written previously about a few options from Rejuvenation Lighting. But for colonial style lighting similar to what was so very prevalent [...]
